A very pretty wedding took place in the beautiful new St. Joseph's on Thursday. August. 30th.. at 3 a.in., when Mary Lina Colette. only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Matters, Kelly's Cross. exchanged marriage vows with. George Anthony. son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Stordy. Kinkora.

The double ring ceremony was pgfformed by Rev. James Smith. who also celebrated the Nuliilal Mass. The oraganist was Mrs. Bennett Trainor. APPl'0Pl'l3'ei hymns were beautifully renderedl by Miss Vivien Tralnor and Mr. Joseph Flood.

white mums with blue anlei feathers. Min Phyllis Cairns, girl-friend

of the bride. as bridesmaid wore I dress of nlle green lace and net ovc taffeta with matching head- dress and gloves. she carried a gonogay of white mums with blue angel feathers.

Mrs. Charlie Flood. cousin of the bride. as second bridesmaid was gowned in a dress of blue lace and net over taffeta with blue headdress and gloves. Har nosegay was similar to that of Miss Cairns.

Little Miss Irene Flood. the win- Uome flower girl. wore a floorl length frock of yellow nylon net and taffeta. Her coronet was of yellow nylon tulle and she carried 1 nougay of white mums..

The groomsmnn was Mr. Ger-. nld Sturdy, brother of the groom. The many guests were ushered in pews marked with white satin bowl Mr. Francis Matters. brother of the bride. and Mr. Ralph Duffy. friend of the groom.

For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Matters chose a blue crepe dress with navy and vihite acc-i essories. Her corsage was pinkl carnations. Mrs. Stordy. mother of the groom. wore a two piece dress of navy with sequin trim and white accessories. Her cnrsage was also pink carnatlons. The bride's”, grandmother wore a black andl white two piece dress uith a red rose as corsage.

The bride's table looked very lovely being decorated with mix- ed flowers and lighted candlcbra and centered by a three ticr wedding czikc topped by a minia- ture bride and groom.

Mr. Louis Hagan was the very capable master of ceremonies and after a few brief remarks called on Rev. James Smith to give the blessing and propose the toast to the bride to which the groom very fittingly responded.

Congratulatory remarks were then made by Rev. James Smith Rev. Harold Croken. Mr. Anthony Stordy, Mr. Fred Matters, Sr.. Mr. Bert Trowsdale. Mr. Wilfred Bradley. Mr. Charlie Flood and Mr. Ernest Duffy. A telegram was then read from the groom's aunts Mrs. Jack Andrlessen and Miss Hannah Duffy. New York.

The bride's bouquet was caught by Miss Phyllis Cairns and the traditional blue garter by Mr Eugene Kelly.

The afternoon was spent in dan- cing to music supplied by Mr. Leslie MacAusland and Miss El- lecn Kelly.

For ii wedding trip through the Nlaritinics the bride wore a grey suit fleck:-d with pink and trimmed with black. Her accessories were pink and black with s corsage of white carnatlons.

Mr. and Mrs. Stordy will live in Kinkora where the groom is a prosperous farmer.

Prior to her marriage the bride taught school for the Past (OPT years. She was tendered a mis- cellancons shower at the home 0 hcr god-piircnts. Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Mnnaghnn at which time she received many beautiful Pl?-V ents as well as a large sum of money.

To housewives quickly calculat- ing food bills. the question may seem absurd.

Yet the poor eating habits of Canadians still contribute to mal- nutrition. and sometimes scurvy. says a federal nutrition expert.

l ”0ften Canadians just don't eat the right variety of foods to give them the best health" says Dr. L. B. Pelt, chief of the health department's nutrition division. SCURVY STILL REPORTED

Working in his office here. with nutrition charts and Canada's fond .rules recorded on bright postcrs ldecorating the walls. Dr. Pelt said scurvy. a disease usually associ- ated with early explorers. is still with us.

It is caused by a lack of Vila- min C, which is found in citrus fruits Jlnfl their juices and sumc vegetables. and usually occurs in late winter months with a seas- onal scsrcity of some of these Vitamin C sources in their fresh forms

He says more than lfl0 cases of scurvy were rot-urilcd in one post- Christmas period at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto last year. But it is not a disease re- stricted to children; persons both young and old. living in citics or the country. may be afflicted.

Although no figures are avail- ahlc as yet to determine the ac- tual number of cases in Canada yearly, a good deal is known about scurvy and few people die from its effects.

Dr. Pett says it is the small amount of Vitamin C in potatoes which protects most Canadians from the disease. although there is s tendency to boil. mash or fry tithe vitamin mit of this vegetable. -DIET IMPORTANT

Poor Eating Habits Can Even Bring On Scurvy

Often Canadians don't realize .the importance of a balanced diet yand which foods an important. A .few people find certain foodstuffs difficult to purchase and a few .can't afford them. Some often spend money on the wrong foods. he says.

This is despite the fact that the nutrition division and provincial health departments have distrib- uted more than 1.000.000 copies of nutritional information since the divislon was founded nearly 15 years ago.

Copies of Canada's food rules. established in HM! after much re- search to determine patterns of good eating. "are still our best seller. although we give them away." says Dr. Pett.

Yet poor eating habits-easily acquired and hard to break-re main the culprits.

The hamburger-for-lunch. or thc iiea-and-toast habits. for instance. upset diets and can eventually up- set health.

HEALTH INVESTMENT

On the other hand. attention to the food rules can be an invest- ment in good health. The rules simply suggest eating three meals a day to include milk. fruit. veg- etables. cereals and bread. meat and fish.

Canadians don?! have to be told to eat meat. and probably get more than enough sugar.

But milk. although the con sumpilon of this food along with other dairy products as greatly increased, is often neglected.

"Everyone needs some milk . . . and Canadians are still not using quite as much milk and cheese as would be good for them." says Dr. Pelt. who finds persons young and old need constant re- minder.

"Quite often it's not what you eat. but what you don't eat." ex- plains this expert who would like to see more Canadians worry as much about getting necessary vitamins. minerals and proteins as they do about elimiaetial w calories.
