Extravagance in shoes is carried to great extremes, the American woman, like the French, priding her- sel- on her extremities, and the care with which she dresses them. Men supply themselves even more liberally, and nothing is so surprising to the in- experienced person as a glance at varied assortments of shoes which make up the wardrobe of some of our men.

Short Skirts. Short skirts are in evidence to an amazing extent. You see them on

trains, boats, in hotel dining rooms and on city streets. ‘They are not bicycle skirts or golf skirts, but have been made for travelling, shopping and the general utility business by the most excellent tailors. Doublefaced cloth is used for them almost invariably, and the check or plain surface is on the outside, according to the taste of the wearer. Many of theskirts are made so that either side may be turned out- ward at will. It must be confessed that the effects of this general abbrevi- ation are not altogether pleasing, says the Philadelphia North American.

The regulation length for these skirts requires that they should come within four inches of the ground—no more, no less. They are supremely comfortable, but far from beautifal, and on a stout woman who has a large foot @py are apt to be ludicrous,— Beston Herald.

If you have any doubts or perplexi- ties as to the doctrine or practices of the Church, why not ask an explana— tion from your clergyman. This would seem the natural thing to do. One would think that in a case like this the parson would be the first man a parish- ioner would goto. But it is simply marvellous how few people ever think of doing this. ‘The clergyman is the last man they will goto. Some little objection suggests itself or is suggested to them by some outsider, and it goes in rankling and festering in their minds for months and years. ° As like- ly as not they talk about it all over the parish. Then it comes toa head and they perhaps sever their connexion with the Church, without ever having uttered a word tothe parson on the subject. Cases like this are occurr— ing every day.
