The linst debate of the season took place at St. Dunstan’s Un- iversity gymnasium recently be tween the girls’ debating teams of St. Dunstan’s and Mt. St. Bor- na-nd of Amigo-nigh. The latter is the Women's college nﬂt’iliated with St. F.X. '

The resolution of the debate was: “Resolved that the impact. of mass momm— tion today is more than detrimental to human MW” S.D.U. uphdld the ahﬂiiunaltive and M.S.B. the negatiye. ,M.S.B. won. This has been the sixth straight unanimous decision the M.S.B. has taken in the past three years.

The M.S.B. debaters were Mur- iel Lee, a. senior ants student, (leader) and Barbara MlacKin- 11011 a junior arts student. A fellow student writes of these girls; Muriel is a native of Ed- munston, New Brunswick. She is very active in college noti- vitilies. Last year she played the leading role in the M.S.B. mucical production “Olullahmnaa”.

The Alpha members were guests on this occasion of the Exemplans and the latter also are allowed to invite two guests. There were many red dresses worn by those present, also green. All this added to the poet- tiness of the evening.

Mrs. Carl Burke, the presi- dent of Exemplar, welcomed the guests. Then Miss Allie MlaoLeod and Mus. Myron Bell started the auctioning. Bidding even at the start was unusually brisk. New ideas and originality prevailed among the anticles nor sale.

Among the many things that could be mentioned were: A lit- tle girl’s adlonable ﬂlaunelette nightie hand made in Christmas colors with her doll‘s nighties to match. Then there was a three piece hand made living- noom suite tor a doll’s house. This included an upholstered sett- tce winh the matchinga rmchairs. Copied in detail from Mummy and Daddy’s furniture this had the added attraction that it was in a gorgeous shade of scarlet.

After the last anticle had gone under the hammer, the guests settled black to enjoy their coi- lee and to look over their pur- chases. Now the gifts are being wrapped and will make their nelxrt appeanance under the Christmas tree.

Altogether the Exemplar chap- ter Auction Sale Bazaar was a most successﬁul and happy eve- ning. ’Dhe convenens were Mrs. JJL. McILellan, convenes of gills and Mrs. A.W. MacNeill the con- vener of the retreshinents.

A bright day this has been. And it came to mind when we saw the children go along the hard-imam road to school, as clean as the Monday-morning slates of the long ago, in those country schools that we knew. Every trace and reminder of past. wonk had been wiped away. Here reaching out before, in a new beginning, was another day, and .How welcome the sun above the tree tops, dark against’ the eastern hills, and pretty the ﬂooding shades on the cloudless December-lame.

"I’m thinking.that means a snowstorm ahead, though there is little sign of it yet. But sheep are strange creatures. They know.”

However there is no falling weather yet, and our day has on- tered the dim of the night. But we recall that last night, after a round of stables with his grand- lather, Mack, our nine-year grand son, found the moon caught with- in a bright circle.

“When you see that“ James told him, “you can be fairly sure of some falling weather ahead. Count the stars in the circle.”
