We may wonder why some men and women die during an attack of heart stroke - coronary throm- bosis - and others not only re- cover from the attack but also rc- cover from further attacks. Why do some survive and others die. even with the first attack?

What we do not know ls the background. the health history of these cases. A well built, strong individual dies with an attack; and one who is poorly built survives. The reason is that the well built individual may have other condit- ions presen-t such as high blood pressure or diabetes. and the poor- ly built one may have been free of‘ other disabilities. -

In the "Pennsylvania Medical Journal." Harrisburg. Dr. J. B. 'I‘reclway reports his study of a number of well proved cases of coronary thrombosis. with the pur- pose of finding the guides the physician would need. to be able to state the probable outcome of the current attack. There were 34 patients, of whom 21 died and 33 survived coronary thrombosis at- tacks.

As a result of this careful ex- amination. including the electro- cardiograms and even observation of bodies after death. Dr. Tredway regards the"ifollowing conditions presented by a patient to be signs that will likely mean the death of the patient: A past history of diabetes; preview attacks of coron- ary thrombosis; congestive failure of the heart or disease of the blood vessels, aside from high blood pressure; shortness of breath; rapidheart beat; low pulse pres- sure; evidence of shock; irregularity of the heart beats; too much sugar in the blood and in the urine where diabetes or kidney disease is not present.

Frcm the above information showing conditions present that can interfere with recovery from a. heart stroke, any of these con- ditions that can be corrected and removed or controlled should claim attention from the family physician of other physicians whcm the family physician considers it advisable to consult. This is the reason that when a patient enters hospital for any reason whatever. he is asked for his own and family history.

CHEESE DUMPLINGS WITH TOMATO SAUCE

We have not made the cheese very emphatic in these dumplings. but have used enough of it to make them taste very good.

To make this dish more sub- stantial. garnish it with crisp bacon slices or a felw nicely browned saus . Or you might like very thin slices of broiled ham in this. same combination.

1 can (3% cups) tomatoes

9i teaspoon salt

few grains pepper

1 teaspoon grated onion

15-’. cups once-sifted pastry flour or 1 1/3 cups once-sifted hard-

wheat flour

3 teaspoons baking powder

I tablespoom chilled shortening V; teaspoon celery seed 1/3 cup shredded nippy cheese ‘A cup urﬂk

Turn the tomatoes info a rather deep saucepan that has s close- fittlng cover; season with l6 tes- spoon of the salt, pepper and onion. Heat thoroughly.

Measure and sift together once. then sift into a mixing bowel. the flour. baking powder and remain- ing ‘A teaspoon salt.

Add the shortening and cut it in

finely; mix in celery seed and cheese. Add the mill: and mix lightly,

Drop mixture by spoonfuls over the hot tomatoes.

Cover closely and simmer. with- out lifting the cover for 15 minutes. Serve immediately.
