On Friday evening, June 16th, a large number of people comp;-lg. ing members, adherents and.friends of the Hartsvllle Presbyurign Church gathered at the Orange Hall at Hartsville for the purpose of tendering a farewell to their pastor. Rev. Donald Nicholson. Mrs Nicholson and Joyce. who are

A soon to leave the congregation to

take up residence in the new manse at Clyde River where Mr. Nicholson is to begin his pastorate over the Clyde Riva charge.

The meeting was brought to or- der by Mr. Neil Nicholson who acted chairman for the evening. The guests of honor were ushered to the platform by Mr. and Mrs. John A. Maclnnis and Mrs. John MacLennan.

After a few pointed remarks Mr. Nicholson called on Mrs. James Nicholson to read a well worded address to Rev. and Mrs. Nichol- son and Mrs. Ben Cousins read an address in favor of Joyce. in re- sponse to the addresses the non; cured guests made fitting replies. The evening was spent in hymn singing and social converse, after which the ladies served a delicious lunch. The gathering was dispers- ed with prayer by Rev. Mr. Nich- olson.

The following is the address. Reverend Donald Nicholson.

Dear Pastor:

Altar seven years of labouring 11110118 US. We have come to the parting of the ways. You did not come to us as a stranger as you were brought up in a Christian home a short distance from this place.

When a young boy you went to the United States and there by your faithfulness to duty you won the respect of all with whom you came in contact, but hearing and heeding the call of your Master you felt that winning souls for Christ was much more important than material gain, and by taking the hard road of study you suc- ceeded in reaching your desired goal.

We have found you a trusted and true friend. ever ready to give of your talents, especially that or song, to any worthy cause" in the community. You have shared in our joys and sorrows and have been a Minisiering Angel when our loved ones were going down through the Valley of the Shadow.

Suffice it is to say that you have attained the greatest of all posses- sions-the high regard and honor of all people regardless of denom- ination or creed. We shall miss yen in the pulpit but we must be submissive to the will of Him who thought it best for you to labor in another portion of God's vine- yard.

In all your undertakings you have been inspired and encouraged by your good wife and daughter. Mrs. Nicholson as a member of the choir and Miss Joyce as our faithful organist.

Your home has always been noted for its warm welcome and genial hospitality, no matter how busy you were with the duties that befell a sincere preacher of the gospel.

We are thankful your labor is in an adjoining field. We have great comfort that you are our Interim- Moderator, and hope that with the help of Divine Providence -you may soon secure a Shepherd for the flock.

We ask you to accept this gift as a token of our love and friend- ship and as a reminder of the esteem in which the three of you Ire held by us all.

On a beautiful June afternoon in 31lck1CY Church. which was deco- rated with seasonal flowers, eighty- rive women representing twelve auxiliaries of the W. M. 5. met to hear reports and discuss the work of the organization and to encour- fxe the members to greater ach- ievements in the future.

Mrs. Guy Pierce capably pre- sided. assisted by Mrs. Lee Saund- ers of Charlottetown.

Mrs. Ambrose Mellett. Mrs. Har- ry Newman and Miss Mary Gill of Union Road led the opening devotional period. Mrs. Sellick welcomed the visitors to Brackley and Mrs. Rev. M. K. Charman graciously replied.

Miss Beryl Morson. missionary on furlough, and Mrs. J. D. MacFar- land. Presbyterial President. were welcomed. and Mrs. MacFar:ane gave a few remarks of timely en- couragement to all interested in the Master's work.

Mrs. J. S. MacLeod, Hunter Riv- er, reported a slight decrease in funds as compared with the same time last year. This challenged each one to work a little harder, pray more, and give more, if the W. M. S. are to reach their object- ive for 1950.

Mrs. MacPherson's message on t-he supply work said: "We cannot truly say we are a W. M.S. work- er if we neglect this phase of the work."

Mrs. R. E. Mulch read a report of the press secretary sent by Mrs. Green urging every Auxiliary to have a press secretary so that His work may be published abroad.

Mrs. Mildred Watts of Charlotte- town beautifully rendercd the solo "Jesus Still Remembers", accomp- anied by Mrs. N. W. Howatt.

Mrs. L. M. Saunders said there were five mission circles in P.E.l. with seventy-nine members. "We must accept the responsibility to the youth in our church today," she said. "and remember the Mis- sion Circle is a link between the W.M.S. and the Mission Band." She quoted in closing:

"Today is the only time we have to work,

Yesterday is but a dream; Tomorrow is but a vision,

Let us rejoice and be glad in it."

Mrs. Guy Pierce strongly urged the organization of a Baby Band everywhere there is an Auxiliary and a baby. Mrs. MacAusland's report on literature spoke of the new study book, "Japan Begins Again". and said to be fully inter- ested we must be fully informed.

Mr. Scott's Christian Stewardship message brought out the fact that in order to give to building for advance. the W.M. S. must meet their objective and then with the over amount, present their gifts to this cause.

After singing "The Church's One Foundation", Rev. Mrs. John Doug- las of. York sang as a solo, "The Year of Jubilee", which was com-

Your beautiful solos made many a service complete. We feel very thankful for having you so long and now our loss will be someone else's gain. We always expected much of you but you were always willing to help with the some sweet smile. Mount Herbert Young Married couples Group

The regular monthly meeting of the Mt. Herbert Young Married Couples Group was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Jen- kins on Thursday evening, June l5th.

The meeting opened by the singing of the hymn "I Love to Tell the Story". The responsive reading was from Luke.15:1l-24 and 1 John 3: 1, after which Erwin led in prayer. The discussion for the evening was on the llth chap- ter of St. Matthew's Gospel. This was followed by the hymn, "Sav- iour Like A Shepherd Lead Us," which brought the devotional per- iod to a close.

The business period opened with the minutes of the May meeting. The roll call was answered by six- tccn members. There was one vis- itor.

It was moved and seconded that we hold another auction at the next meeting to raise funds. The next meeting is to be held at the share on July 26th, and is to be in charge of Mr. and Mrs. Winston Wood. The collection amounted to 51.25.

A lengthy discussion took place regarding a proposed Bible Study course to be held in the fall, but no definite decision was reached.

YORK AUXILIARY OF W. M. S.

The York Auxiliary of the W. M. S. met for its regular meeting at the home of Mrs. Elmer Brown, with the president. Mrs. Douglas in charge of meeting. The meet- ing opened with hymn, "The Church's One Foundation".

The programme as outlined in the Missionary Monthly was fol- lowed. it being the same as was used at the inaugural service of the United Church of Canada at Toronto 25 years ago. The Script- ure reading was taken from John 17:1-21. This was followed by prayer in unison, followed by the Lord's Prayer. "Growing With the Years" was reviewed in the Auxil- iary and it was felt W. M. S. had made advances in most depart- ments. in the closing Litany of Dedication to "Advance" the mem- bers all stood to re-dedicate them- selves anew to advance in the Auxiliary.

The minutes of last meeting were rcad and approved, followed by roll call, which was responded to with handing in sympathy or get- well cards. Two letters were read by secretary, from W.C.T.U. and Temperance Federation.
