CITY SCHOOLS.

Midsummer Examination

We have not space to-day for all the lit- tle particulars. We cannot tell of all the gifts and addresses given to teachers ; of the pretty girl who recited well; and the sharp boy who showed his sharpness by working out a difficult geometrical problem. We cannot even say much about the nicely decorated schoelrooms and the tidily dress- ed children. We can only present that which is, indeed the gist of the whole

matter, viz: THE PRIZE LIST. MEDALISTS.

Grorce Rortrson, son of Mrs. (widow) Robinson, was awarded the Longworth Gold Medal for proficiency in Classics. In presenting the prize, Mr. Longworth said he hoped the winning of the prize was but the commencement of a noble scholastic career.

Berta MeLennan—daughter of the Rev. Mr. McLennan—won the DeBlois Gold Medal for proficiency in English branches. The prize was presented by R. F. DeBlois, Esq., on behalf of his father. It was an- nounced that Frank Stewart and Carrie Wade were second and third best in Eng- lish branches.

Fravx Beer—son of Councillor Beer— was awarded the Hodgson Gold Medal te

hoys for proficiency in English History. E. J. Hodgson, Esq., presented it amid

Aupert McNewt—son of Rev. Donald MeNeill—won the Haviland Silver Medal to boys for proficiency in History. Senator Haviland accompanied the presentation with a short congratulatory speech.

Caartorre MeNeILL, daughter of Rev. Donald MeNeil!, was awarded the gold medal, given by Mrs. E. J. Hodgson to the girl most proficient in English History. The prize was presented by E. J. Hodgson, Esq

Mapce Brrr, daughter of Councillor Beer, s:2s awarded the silver medal, given by Frederick Brecken, Esq., to the girl second best in English History.

Great Sale of Buiiding Lots.

Tue sale of Hon. J. C. Pope’s residence and valuable building lots was commenced yesterday by Mr. William Dodd. Fifty- five lots were disposed cf, realizing $15,558. One hundred and twenty-four lots are yet to be sold. ‘‘Ardgowan” — with barns, ‘ete., and five and a-half acres of land, was purchased by Mr. Wm. Dodd for $3,350. We understand that the Juvenile Concert by 400 children of the City Schools, given a few weeks ago, will be repeated on Monday evening next, the 30th inst., in Association Hall. Several gentlemen will address the meeting, and an interesting programme will be presented by the young folks in singing, reciting, etc. A bumper house should be given Mr. Ross for his efforts in developing the musical iaste of the rising generation, as we are informed that his services have been given gratuitously to the Schools of Charlottetown for several weeks past.
