The Financial District Meeting resumed ‘ts sitting in the Basement of the Brick Church on September 2nd, at 2 p. m., the Rev. Job Shenton presiding. Arrange- ments were made for Missionary and Edu- cational meetings. An unanimous resolu- tion was passed, reaffirming the action of the Financial District mee:ing twelve months ago, which recommended the P. E. {. Hospital to the support of the Methodist public, and asking the Quarterly Boards to permit collections to be taken up in aid ef the Hospital on the Sabbath ap- pointed by the Committee. Rev. George Harrison vas elected representative of the district to the local Missionary Board. The amounts collected on behaif of the General Conference Fund were paid over to the District Superintendent. tt was decided to hold the annual district meeting in Summerside, when several pub lic services are to be arranged for. After afew words the Supeintendent had urged the members to fidelity, and expressed the hope that a prosperous year might be en- joyed and the singing of the Doxology, the Rev. S. Phenney led in prayer and the Superintendent pronounced the Benedic- tion. In the evening the Rev. Joseph Pascoe preached to a goodly number in the basement.

Six,—I am informed by several persons who were present at the meeting in the Market Hall last evening, that Mr. L. H. Davies stated that he had sent a letter to the Herald for publicaticn, in reply to the strictures | had made upon his political con- duct, and that I had rfeused to publish that letter. If Mr. Davies sent such a letter I never received it or it woald have been pub- lished, {Lot him send it again and I shal] cheerfully give it insertion. But I have no hesitation in saying that Mr. Davies sent no such letter, and that his statement made last night was a wilful and deliberate lie, made with the malicious intent of injuring me.

Sir Charles Tapper has received the fol- lowing despatch from his Secretary in Lon- don: ‘‘One hundred and ten awards made to Canada at Antwerp. Three diplomas of honor, thirteen gold, thirty-one silver, and thirty-three bronze medals awarded. Thirty exhibits received honor- able mention. Details will not be made public by exhibition authorities till begin- ning of September.

Statistics of ciolera in Spain for the past week shows roughly that there was a daily average decrease of 300 new cases and 140 deaths. In Granada and Saragossa this decrease was most notable, while in Madrid and Rarcelons there was no change. In Valencia, Toledo and Siamera there was an increase in the number of cases and deaths.

Arthur Laurance Haliburton, C. B., director of supplies and transport, who has been promoted to the dignity of a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (Civil Division), is a son of the late Thomas Chandler Haliburton, formerly Judge of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia, some- time M. Messrs. Hoartz and McKie's Percheron stallion ‘‘ Duroc” was exhibited here in the class of ‘Best stallions for raising cait Horses.” He was awarded first prize. Dureco, since he came here, was greatly admired, and was pronounced to be the best stallion ever exhibited in Bangor. The Commercial refers to him as follows:—-The pure-bred Percheron stallion “Duroc” owned by Heartz & McKie, of Charlottetown, P. E. L., is now on exhibi- tion at the New England fair grounds, stall No. 148, He is a beautiful dapple gray with white mane and tail. He is four years old and weighs nearly 2000 pounds. He was selected last fall by Mr. McKie from a shipment of 135 Percheron stallions that arrived in New York from F rance, owned by M. H. Dunham, Esq., of the Oakland Ferm, Wayne, lil. This horse is surely worth seeing. By all judges he is pronounced a very superior bred enimal. He is attracting much attention, and is undoubtedly the finest horse of his breed ever exhibited in New England.

Hanovarian Wrecked. Hairax, Sept. 3. The Allan Line s'eamer Hanovarian,from this port to Liverpool via. St. John’s, Nfid., struck Portugal Cove in Trepassy Bay, on Wednesday. The passengers, crew and mails, were saved. The cargo is not likely to be saved as the ship is rapidly filling with water. Amopg the passengers were His Lordship Bishop Binney and family.
