Lighting On Campus

There have been a number of complaints at the U.P.E.I. campus regarding the poor lighting facilities. The main question is whether or not these complaints are valid ones. According to security officer, John McEntee, they are not. Mr. McEntee feels that many students purposely choose the badly lit areas (such as butting across the fields) instead of sticking to the walkway, which has lights. It is hard to put lighting n the fields. Areas on the campus which have re- eived complaints in a recent letter to the Editor are ‘the back of Memorial Hall, between Duffy and the shapel, and the areas at the front of Main Building.’’ There are also complaints that the lights are hidden by he branches of the trees.

Juring the past week, an effort has been put forth to etter the lighting system. Many of the lights have €en repaired as well as replacing broken bulbs. Mr. icEntee feels that the main problem is that students 0 not use the proper walkway. He does not think lat there is a problem with a lack of lighting in the ampus. Itis also hard to put more lighting around a je parking areas. ——.

‘meeting will be held between security officer Mr. .J. MacLeod, the electricians at the University, and € president of the student union regarding the light- gon campus. No definite date has been set as yet.
