Dr. MacMlllan also wanted to know why Professor Murphy was not given the chair of a professor as he should have been instead of being designated as a teacher or lecturer.

Premier Jones replied that Mr. Murphy was one of the highest paid men at Prince of Wales Col- lege and that he had been grant- ed a salary increase during the last, part of 1950. He also stated that Mr. Murphy had been offer- ed another teachlng position at a higher salary and that the in- crease was granted to him in order to retain his services here.

Oak Valley Man' Dies In Hospital

Mt. Stewart Jaycees Plan Action

A pla.n of action to improve the community of Mount Stewart was dlscused at the regular monthly meeting of the Mount Stewart Junior Chamber of Commerce held in the Legion Hall on Mon- day. April 17th.

The plan. which is to go into ef- fect lmmediately, has the Cham- bers t'ull support. and with the co- operation of the residents of Mount Stewart. should prove to be of great benefit to this progressive agricultural village. The Chair- man, Dan Mullin. introduced as guests, Walter 1LsaPage, President. Region XII .lr. Chamber of Com- merce, Ignatius MacDonald. Vice President, Charlottetown Jaycees. and Walter Du-tfy, who is a. mem- ber of the Executive of the City Chamber.

Dr. MacMillan also crltized the use of the Gavernemtn grants at P. W. C. He maintained that the grants were given only for pur- poses of maintenance and not scholarships. Besides he did not think that the scholarships or bursaries should be given to only third and fourth year students. Premier Jones replied that there were no strings attached to the grants in any way. "But they could not be given to first and second year students as these students were ionly in High School and the provisions of the grants stated that they must be uscd for university years," he aintorl.
