Port av Prince, Hayti, May 9.—The United States crui-er Montgomery is sup- posed to have been engaged with a Spanish cruiser on Saturday night, cit Northwest Cape, Hayti.

The Spaniard is said to have pursued the American cruiser, both of them putting on full steam, The Spaniard, according io the story told by the crew of a French steanser, gained in the pursuit which was witnessed from the bridge of the French~ map.

The two warships, they say, went in the same direction, with the Spaniard behind- The iatter appeared to ve a formidable vessel and rmouch larger and faster than the Montgomery.
