The death occurred yesterday in fisafrince Edward Island Hospital of Mrs. Robert Rhynea in her aard year. ‘no late Mrs. itbynes was born near Aberdeen, Scotland, where six of her family of eight children were born. In mo. the Rhynea family came to Canada and settled on a farm at Marahfield which the remaining two of the family claim as their birthplace.

Special Service Baptist Church

A large congregation attended the Baptist Church Sunday morn- ing on the occasion of the annual Children's Day Service. The ser- vice was conducted by the min- ister, Rev. J. D. Davison ‘with Dr. A. Gibson of Wolfville as the guest speaker.

Rochford Square School Display Viewed By Many

The variety and scope of the creative art of about 550 pupils of Roi-hford Square School was viewed with appreciation by hun- dreds of friends and relatives who visited the sch:lol over the week-end. The exhibits will curi- tinue to be shown until tomorrow evening.

Grades 1 to IX are represented in the exxhibii and the gradual development. of the pupils in the various classes of work from the kidergarten stage to the most advanced productions in sewing and weaving may be followed without difficulty.

Grade 1 begins with colored sewing cards, doll pillows. paper weaving and oilcloth stuffed toys followed by specialized work on liandkercliiefs in garde II. aprons in grade III, embroidered runners in grade IV while the program for grade V is extended to in- clude hem-stitched linen guest towels, hem-stitched pillow cases. handkcrchiefs and knitting. Grade V1 is devoted to aprons of great variety and finish, designed to en- courage the personal touch.

The students take-a definite. step forward in grade VII when they are encouraged at an aver- age age of 12 years to consoli- date their knowledge and attempt further development on the sew ing machines. Dresses, skirts, bol- eros, blouses. cushions, aprons, embroidered runners. painting sea shells, soap-carving. smacking and Dutch hats are included in this class work.

Grade VIII finds the students getting right down to work which should fit. them for adult life. In this class three looms are brought into play and weaving is added to their activities. Skirts and huliy blankets play a leading part in this division while other skilled workers make school uniforms. smocked aprons, hat and purse sets, tea sets. chcsterfleld sets, vanity sets, cushions. nylon hand- bags, and mt-n‘s scarfs and belts.

Grade IX continues to develop the finer points of all the advan- ced studies and exercises, stress-

ing hemstltched altar linens. Each class has painting and work leaders.

The cooking division is given

instruction by Miss Alta Prowse in grades VII and VIII, Samples on display represent a lesson taught to the whole class durlnii the year and exemplifies a three- nteal ii day nutritious diet nation- ally approved. with a special tray to meet sick requirements.

local Air Cadels Win Rifle Trophy

A team of air cadets from so (Charlottetown) squadron edged the 53 (Summerside) squadron out of the winning score in a rifle shooting contest in summerside on Friday. to carry off the beautiful trophy donated by Mr. Frank Ar- nett. emblematic of the air cadet campionship of the Province.

The l.rophy_ which will be com- peted for annually. by Air Cadet squadrons on the Island, was pre- sented by Mr. Arnett to Sgt. Ir- win Buell during the exercises of Air Force Day at Summersido on Saturday.

The Charlottetown air cadets composing the winning team were: W02 Jack Hobbs, F.Lt. Wendell MacLcan, Sgt. David MncNevfn. Sgt. Irwin Buell, Cpl. Robert Pit- cairn. and LAC. Robert Hyndman, Cpl_ Pitcairn had the highest score in the shoot, turning in a total of 96. The Charlottetown average was 91.2 and Summerslde 89.8.

Local Team Second In Atlantic Provinces

In the D. C. R. A. winter com- petition lD54, Air Cadet squadrons. the team from 60 (Charlottetown; squadron placed second in the At- lantic Provinces division and lsth among all squadrons in Canada, top honours going to victol-l._ 3 C. with an average of 97.134. The Charlottetown squadron averaged 90333.

Five Young Women Assist At Sonics

At the morning service of Trin- ity United Church yesterday. Rev. A. Frank Macbean was assisted by five young women, four of whom were graduate desconessea of the United Church Training School and the fifth an ordained minister and a grsduata of Em- manuel College, Toronto.

Miss Louise Coat of this City delivered the address in which she gave an account of the activi- ties of the girls who take train- ing at the United Church School in Toronto and the actual experi- ence they receive in field work during the course and during the

months.

Miss Margaret Brown also gave the congregation some idea of the work required of a Deaconess. She urged the young women to give serious consideration to a full time career in the work of the church.

Judgement was reserved Satur- day in the Exchequer Court of Canada by Mr. Justice Alphonse Foamler in the suit of Harold Behm. Graizdvlew, for $20,000 dam- ages against the Crown an a re- sult of a collision with an Army vehicle in September of 1952.

The Crown had entered a coun- ter claim for $2,070 for damages to the vehicle. Appearing for the suppliant were Messrs. John Nich- olson and Gerald Footer. while the Crown was represented by Messrs. Frederic A. Large, Q. C.. and Keith E. Eaton. Ottswa_

During the argument advanced by Mr. Nicholson the judge naked what figure the attorneys for the suppliant felt he should receive. Mr. Nicholson said he believed it should beiat least 35.000 compen- aatlon for the pain suffering and disfigurement He also thought medical bills incurred, total loss of his car and a sum for partial disability should be added. when Judge Pournier asked for a total figure including all amounu Mr Nicholson said he believed it should be between 04,500 and 05.500.

A large congregation at each of the services at St. Peter's Anglican Cathedral yesterda'y marked thi liitb anniversary of the first ser- vices held there. The celobrant at early Holy Eucharist was the V81’! Reverend W. W. Davis, Dean of Nova Bcotia and at the 11:00 am. procession and Choral Eucharist. the sermon was preached by Rev. Canon l. M. Malone. a former Rector now a member of the Cathedral clergy.

Rev. Canon J. 'r. Ibbott, Rector of St. Paul's Parish Church. Char- lottetown, preached the sermon at Evensong which was followed by procession and Te Doum.

Canon Ibbott referred to the in- fluence of St. Peter’: in the spin- tual life of the community during the years of it’: existence and the faith which had inspired many in devot their lives to the service of God in this country and elsewhere. He brought greetings from the Congregation of St. Paul's and prayed for the continued expansion of Christian fellowship.
