0’1 behalf of all the students of UPEI, the staff of the Sun would like to extend its congratulations and thanks to Gerald Mc— Kenna and the Winter Car- nival Committee for the execution of a funfilled Winter Carnival. Mr. Mc- Kenna‘and his staff obvi- ously put a lot of time and effort into the plan— ning Of the Carnival and their efforts were not' in vain. There were activ— ities for all those inter- ested and a good time was had by all. Qice again Gerald, we extend our grat— itude to you and your st- ' aff for a successful Win- ter carnival '78, where there is no business like snow business.

This letter is prin— cally a letter of critism, however,I will start off on a positive note and say that I feel Winter Carnival '78 was a success,overall-. There was an unfortunate incident but c'est la vie. Well,right to the point.
I entered the car rally
as a somewhat innocent navigator with an avid dri— ver.A challenge? Yes,but also a farce.

After gearing up for the event,it turned out to be frustrating to endure the ordeal (and we only made it over l/3 of the course).
The mileage (kilometerage) is perhaps a major complaint. Since when does lkm mean
l/4 — 3/4(approx.)km.?And
really,,when one is instructed
to go l.4km.,cne should be
(perhaps?) told that one will first come to an intersection" and one must turn left there. 'I guess I shouldn't complain-z we had a 50/50 chance! (and we
only went right once,then~ we caughton!)'I'he clincher
came when further instructions
said to go right at an inter—

"go left". After we couldn't
find the church we gave up. (mind you this was after 21/2 hours and 1/3 of the course) .We returned to the campus and w ere told about the "typmraphical" error and that we could go back and 10 mins. would be taken off our time.We turned down this generous offer mostly because we were disgusted and dreaded the thought of whatwas still to come!! _ Did anyone win??Did any— one finish???Now I ask YOU Jon Paul MacIntyre—Because

GiARlUI‘TEI‘CWN (IIS) - A UPEI student and a homemaker have been appointed to fill mo vacancies on the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women.
The UPEI student is Patsy McQuaid of Charlottetown ' and the homemaker is Terry Hayes of'BrLKienell. Their appointments were announced today by Minister‘ Responsible George Proud.
The women will fill the vacancies left by the resignations of Beatrice Burke and Janet Dale. Burke had served one and a half years on-the council and Dale mo and a half years.
Commenting on the appointments, Mr. Proud said he supports the idea of having people from different walks of life on the council. "The more
