Is our ‘‘ship news” yesterday we published a notice of the attachment and sale in Port- land, Me., of the brig Fleetwood. We are in- formed that it was not the Fleetwood which was sold. It was the Fleetwing. A’telezram to Mesers. Longworth & Co., of the 9th inst., announces the arrival of the Fleetwood at New York.
THE enquiry into the murder of Mrs. Con- nelly was brought toa close at Montreal on Monday, when the jury, after ‘an absence of about an hour, brought in a verdict of wilful murder against Jaceb Mears, Susan Kennedy (wife of Jacol) Mears} and Michael Flanagan. it appears that, under the French laws exist- ing in that Province, there is no provision for tinding a verdict against an individual as an accessory before or after the murder.
Sevpinc SrRAWBERRIES TO ENGLAND. —Six hundred crates of strawberries will be shipped on the Warren steamer ‘Victoria,’ which sails to-morrow. They will be packed on ice in a patent refrigerator. This is the first lot of perishable fruit that has been shipped to Engiand from this port, and, if they prove a success, probably more will follow.—Boston Traveller. .
Me. J. P. Wiser, M. P., of the Rysdyk Stock Farm, |’rescott, has arrived home from Europe. He sailed May llth, on the steam- ship ‘“‘City of London,” and that vessel car- ried out for him 600 head of fat cattle, 145 hogs, and 70 sheep, the greatest amount of live stock ever sent across the Atlantic in one ship. On the ‘‘Cybele,” a little later, 300 head of Mr. Wiser's cattle went over, and 300 more in the “Baltimore.” ‘They all found a ready sale in the foreign markets. — Mail.

Burroughs with his dramatic company, sup- ported by Mr, Nannery’s company of Halifax. will arrive in this city this evening, ‘They will-inaugurate a short season in the Market Hall and will introduce Bulwer’s cele- brated five act play, ‘“The Lady of Lyons,” and Tom Taylor's great drama, the ‘Ticket of Leave Man,” as well as many other equally prominent pieces. Judging from the tone of the press and the success these companies have attained in Haili- fax, where they have closed a series of grand performances, we may ,bespeak for our citizens something rare in dramatic perform- ances. Tickets are now on sale at Dodd’s Medical Hall. Persons who wish to secure a goed seat for to-morrow evening, should yur? chase their tickets without delay.
AN amusing scene was witnessed on the Market Square this morning. An itenerant vendor of cement erected a suitable frame and platform for the purpose of selling his goods. Shortly after commencing his address to the ** jadies and gentlemen,” another street orator, perched upon a wagon quite close to v endor No. 1, also commenced his address on the great merits of his *‘ Indian roots and herbs” ~~~ duplicate, by the way, of Ton Ton Ter- frikem’s. The crowd who had gathered around No. 1 immediately rushed to No. 2 and left the “‘cement man” without an audience. No. L took the situation in at a glance—he was the least attractive—and accordingly removed his portable store toa prominent position along- side the ‘‘doctors’’ wagon. The confusion of tongues which followed was equal to Babel, aud the amused throng cheered each contest-

Warsinc.—Last year part of this Island was visited and shamefully imposed upon by shoddy cloth pedlars, and many poor people duped into giving them notes at 6 months for sums varying from forty to one hufdred dol- lars, for which they received a Jot of worth less cloth—a lady a dress and a red and black or white and black plaid shawl. Some of the farmers on the Georgetown Road have reason to regret the visit of these thieves. Many of the poor people on the Island were writted for last year’s purchases, and the last dollar waeey out of them to pay the notes they were
aped into signing for this shoddy trash. This year they are visiting the parts that escaped them last season, and are, i ssible, More unscrupulous than last year, and a num- ber of poudinigeee people around Three Rivers have been sadly deceived.
