The seventh annual meeting of the Canadian Pacitie Railway Company was held here to-day, when directors for the ensuing year were elected, Mr. Geerge Stephen and Mr. VanHorne being elected President and Vice-President respectively. rhe report showed gross earnings for the year of $12,606,412, and working expenses of $8,102,296, with net earnings of $5.505,1'8; less fixed charges, $3,228,- 2635, leaving a surplus of $253,855. Che report goes on to speak of the increased trattic, success of the steamship service be- tween Vancouver, China and Japan, and other matters. Referring to the agreement

Hon. Mr. Laveille, Legislative Councillor, has been arrested on a charge of forgery, it is alleged committed 22nd Aug. 1885. He has been released, and a preliminary ex- amination is to be held 16th inst.

Libel Suit—A Defiance.

Referring to Geo, F. Gregory's threaten- ed libel suit, the Farmer says:—‘* The Farmer has secured the services of eminent counsel, and will meet Mr. Gregory in the courts if he feels like gomgthere. The Farmer has never enjoyed the luxury of a libel suit, and if re must have one we know of no individual’ we would rather meet than Mr. G. F. Gregory.”
