Mr. Foch MacDonald, Souris. was elected president of the P.E.I. Commend Canadian Legion, B.!:. 8.1.... at the 23rd annual convention held yesterday at Georgetown un- der the auspices of the George- town Branch of the Canadian Le- gion. Tbirty-nine delegates were present representing the 24 branches in the Province. The total number attending the convention was approximately two hundred.

The report submitted by presi- dent Earl G. Cannon of Summer- side indicated that the increase of

. membership this year over last

year was conslde able with the present membership standing at over 1,800. Mr. Cannon stated that the Legion in the Province was in a healthy condition, and that the work of promoting the Legion must continue. Since some areas were not yet fully covered. he felt that new branches should be organized, or the areas of pre- sent branches extended. Not only were the branches important, he said, but also the zone areas, which were designed to consider and dispose of problems in that area, and also to promote the work of the Legion on a wider scale.

The number of Normal Train- ing students registering It Prim? of Wales College yesterday was 42, g, drop of 20 over the previous year. It is pointed out that since the regulation calling for Junior matriculation went into effect last year a great many of the students anticipating the teacher training course will remain in their home school to qualify in this respect before coming for the Normal Training Course at P.W.C. It can be assumed therefore that the num- ber enroling in this class will be up considerably next year.

The task of providing accom- modation for some 575 delegates of the lath General Council of the United Church of Canada which meets at sackville, N.B., next week is a large one for the planning com- mittee end the preparations re- quired to move this large body of people to Prince Edward Island on the afternoon of the 18th has fai- len largely to Mr. Sydney T. Green, Charlottetown, who is the Island member of that committee.

Recently refused for publication is a text book entitled "A Year With The Bible" written by Rev. Lawrence Toombs, Ph.D., professor at Drew University, Madison, N.J., and formerly of Charlottetown.

-A coroner's Jury, empannelled by Dr. W. A. Shea coroner, met in the O'Leary town hall last evening to enquire into the cause of death of Daniel McKay, Campbellton. whose body was found August 313'. in s. ditch near his home at Campbellton.

The open verdict of the jury was that the said Daniel McKay came to his death during the late hour Sunday night A u g u st 29th at Campbellton, P.E.I., from a broken neck from causes unknown.

The deceased, an employee of Scales Hydro Electric Company of Freetown, was killed instantly on August. ltiih when he came in con- tact with a high voltage line while making an electrical connection.

Prowse and Mrs. Prowse returned to the City last evening after attending the Canadian Ne'.- ional Exhibition at Toronto, where Governor Prowse was a guest of honor at the dircctore' luncheon. On the evening of the same day His Honor and Mrs. Prowse were guests of the Exhibition and were seated in the Royal Box of the grandstand.
