Mother And 'Daughter Dinner Held At YMCA

This was the final activity of a round of in ltiations which were held last Thurs- day night. Girls with heavily made up faces were seen douig all sorts oi queer things on Charlottetown: streets.

The banquet was openedlwtth Grace by Gail Partridge. Dul'lDE 3 delicious meal Wayne MacDonald proposed a toast to the mothers which was responded to by Mrs- Tom Davies. Guests at the head table were then introduced. .

Former Ch'town Man Elected As Alderman In N. B.

In a hotly contested municipal election held last week in New- castle. N.B.. George E Irlam. son of Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Irlam. Charlottetown. was successful in winning a seat on the Aldermanic Board of the town. Nine candid- ates. including a former mayor. were in the running for the four seats on the Board; Mr. Irlam was the only new candidate elect- ed.

Alderman Irlam left Charlotte town in 1937 to take up residence in Newcastle where he married a local girl. They have three chil- dren. The family visit here freq- uently and Mr. Irlam. who is asso- ciated with Fleet Motors Ltd.. con- tlnuea to have a deep interest in this city. where he attended West Kent School and Prince of Wales College. At a special meeting of the Guern- sey Breeticrsi Association held ' Charlottetowii yesterday atteruoon the following resolutions were ap proved:

When she left the house the children were in the living room playing with their toys. Garry told her that he tried to get young Freddie out but the youiigcr child would not come with him. He was too heavy to carry. the little boy told her. Mrs. Som- ers entered the burning building through the kitchen into the living room to search for the baby but was forced out by the thick smoke. She could not find the door into the bedroom.

On going to the rear of the house she crawled in through a window and searched in the bedroom for the missing child but could not find him.

John Danton. a neighbor. saw the fire and raced to the house to find Mrs. Somers whom he had to restrain from entering the burning building. Mr. Denton thought that
