A look at the sex supplement

Chatting with readers about the “Sexpress”

ee, the paper was there one day and gone the next. I guess that everyone wanted

to know the goings-on in the wonderful world of sex.

I asked the students what they thought of the first-ever U.P.E.I. X-Press sex supplement and they had a lot to say. There were various opin- ions on the supplement, ranging from the paper not going far enough to it going too far.

Some were shocked by the cover- could the X-Press be so bold? Prince Edward Island is such a small area, and the students realized that it took a lot of guts for the editor to publish the supplement -- let alone the cover. The cover was “*bold’’ and “‘daring’’. All the students I spoke with said it was the cover that got them inter- ested in the paper, and it takes an intrepid person to put those pictures in such a wide spread

newsmagazine. All-in-all, students were glad to see it.

As for the articles, most of the students I spoke with were excited to read what it had to say - or was it they got excited by reading what ithad to say? At any rate, they enjoyed reading it. A different angle on sex is worth finding out about (though perhaps not in the literal sense of the phrase).

Some of the students felt let down. The cover and the build-up to the supplement were far more exciting than the actual articles them- selves, some thought. Some students said the supplement was “‘rather wimpy’’, and others thought the X-Press could have been a bit more bold. One student thought the supplement tip- toed around the subject at hand, and ‘‘a lot more could have been covered’’. There is a lot more

to sex than just the act itself. Babies, STD’s and emotions are just some of the things that could have been covered in more depth.

Although some of the students may have thought the articles were not all too exciting, they realize that we are only human, and we were nervous. Maybe next time we will not be quite so nervous, you know, this was our first time.

As for another sex supplement, many stu- dents would love to see it. Other interesting subjects could be covered and different aspects of life can be talked about.

All-in-all, students are glad the X-Press is reaching out to its readers, and are talking about things students are really interested in.

The yearbook will be accepting job applications for all its paid staff positions untl November 19th. The positions of Editor, Assistant Editor, Photographer, Assistant Photographer and lypesetter. all pay a reasonable weekly wage. They are all convenient rewarding part-time jobs. Applications are available at the barn during business hours.
