National Program ls Set For Centre:

A national program of urban

peautification will be launched at Charlottetown’s Confederation November

» undertaken by Professor Harold Spence-Sales of McGill Univer- sity. The study was financed by ea-twenty-five thou. dollar grant from the National Housing Act, under the sponsorship of the Central Mortgage-and-Hous-

_ ‘ing Corporation) The Fathers of Confederation Memorial Buildings and the surrounding downtown Charlottetown area was chosen’as the pilot area in preparing the study.

AIM OF PROGRAM The national program ‘s de-

signed to help municipalities in |

jimprovement of their downtown \areas. First objective ‘of the study was the preparation of a manual, illustrating ways by which smaller municipalities ean. bring features of urban en-

ships with each other. The man- ual is based almost entirely on ease studies undertaken in Char- lottetown.

A second objective of the study | is to present definite proposals | for the improvement of the Char- | lottetown area. “Southport Man Assessed $50

* A Southport man, Frederick _ Alfred Cole was fined $50 and costs or seven days for driving with a suspended Ucense when he appeared before Justice of the Peace, Albert Dinnis in ‘Traffic Court Tuesday.

Four persons were each fined $10 and costs, they were: Robert Boyd MacQuarrie of Bonshaw for allowing a passenger ‘to in- terfere with his driving: David T. Long, Wést Royalty, for per- mitting a person to drive his au- tomobile while it had insuffic- Sent equipment; Alexander G. Conohan, City, for permitting an unlicensed person to drive: and Brandon Joseph M. Morrissey, Newtown Cross, for driving with insufficient equipment.

Waldo Wayne Sanderson, Millview, was fined $15 and costs for speeding.
