The Dodgeball society, fronted by Josh Simon and Dan MacRae, meets every Sunday from 6-8pm at the UPEI fieldhouse. The club primarily plays notable games such as team dodgeball (made popular through elementary school and the film starring Ben Stiller). The game begins with even teams, where players who are hit go to jail in the opposing court. In order to get out of jail, you must hit an opposing team member. Elimination dodge-ball is a similar game, except the losing team receives the first player they knocked into jail.

Another lesser known game the club plays is Cougar-ball, where there are no assigned teams and theoretically it's a free for all. Whenever you get hit by a ball you sit out, and when the person who put you out is hit, you return to the game. An interesting aspect about cougar-ball is the unof- ficial alliances created during the games. Such alliances could be started by simply catching a ball after it hit a colleauge thus keeping them in the game and sending the thrower to the sidelines.

One of the most efficient rules in dodge-ball is the three-step-rule. Once you get a ball you may only take three steps with it before tossing the ball.

In conclusion, the dodgeball club is truly a welcoming society and one of the leaders makes sure

to introduce themselves personally to new members every week. Students across campus agree that dodge-ball is a great way to spend Sunday evenings and escape the stresses of the week.

This week we start south of the border, and how about the Lions sticking it to Mike Vick and the Falcons? Detroit is a young team that won’t stand up in the playoffs, but you gotta love the heart they are showing. It will push them past Green Bay on Sunday. The game of the week is one many believe to be a pre- view of the Super Bowl: Seattle vs. New England, who have won a record 19 games in a row. It’s just a hunch, but I like Seattle in this one, they’ll be hungry after blowing a huge lead in their loss to the Rams on Sunday. Plus this streak has to end sometime. Speaking of contenders, the Chiefs will prove their 0-3 start was a fluke as they defeat Jacksonville, a team that’s falling back to earth after a hot start. Not speaking of con- tenders, Buffalo beats Miami in the glorious battle of the basement. As bad as the Bills are, the Dolphins are simply that much worse.

In the world of Canadian Football, the Saskatchewan Roughriders are suddenly the hottest team in the league, reeling off 4 straight wins, despite being very inconsistent while on this tear to improve to .500. If this team can be consistent, they’ll be playing for the Grey Cup come late November. On Sunday they’ll battle Edmonton, a talented team that has been struggling as of late, and since the game is in Regina, I have to say the Rider Nation will beat the Eskimos and lock up 2nd place in the West. In the East, Danny McManus looks to return to the playoffs as his Hamilton Tigercats should take care of a crippled Ottawa team that has more players in the infirmary than on the field.
