Jounstown, Pa., July 10.
Fifteen persons were carried down Gay adenite Creek last night. Four bodies were recovered this morning. They were badly bruised. The heavy rain choked the stream and flooded all the district there abvuts. Schribers large mill at this place wascarried away. Twenty persons were on Ferry Street bridge when the arch fell into the turrent. The stream was filled with wreckage and humanity. Lanterns were procured and parties went along the side of the stream with ropes to assist in the rescue. Citizens are engaged in re- moving the wreckage of Schribers mill near the depot, where they think other bodies are lodged. No one knows how many people were drowned, or who are missing. The flood was so great and the current so swift thatno help could be rendered with out great danger.
The State Street iron bridge and railroad bridge was sweptaway. They were large structures.
Yesterday afternoon, during the heaviest part of the storm, Main and Bleecker streets in Gloversville were flooded with water, and « number of residenves in the upper part of the town were entirely flooded by water.
Two iron bridges on the Central and Fonda, Johnstown and Gloversville Rail- way at Fonda are gone.
‘our tracks of the New York Central road were washed out at Tribes Hill for 1,000 feet, and the total damage in that vicinity is valued at $100,000.
Unica, N. Y.. July 10.
The railway situation is summed up this morning as follows : Central tracks washed away at Fondaand ¢Aiken, great damage done not only to Johustowa but down the Mohawk Valley to Amsterdam. There is no definite information as to loss of life.

Shell an African Town. TROUBLE ON MARSHALL ISLANDS.
New York, July 10.
A special from Zanzibar to the Herald says the German gunbvat Ptiel arrived here this morning from Pangani and re- ports that that piace was shelled yesterday by five German men-of-war. After the bombardment Lieut. Nissman’s forces, numbering over a thousand men, landed, supported by 4,000 German sailors. All the Arabs and black men had retired and the Germans deciare that they had no losses, which is unprobable. Lieut. Nisman and his forces have occupied Pangani. No Germau was killed there in the recent out- break, and this ruthless destruction of the place seems unwarranted. Mombassa is not unlikely to feel the effect of this and the British ship Turquvise is stationed there permanently with her crew under arms day and night.
News from the Marshall Islands, via San Francisco, shows that American traders there are being treated with great injustice by the Germans, and that the recent com- plaints from Americans and English at Samoa are trifling as compared with what the merchants on the Marshall Islands are compelled to suffer from Gern.an greed and intolerance. The German company prac- tically rules the Islands, being backed by the German consul. Foreigners are at the mercy of the Germans, and American firms are gradually being driven out by them. The natives are much dissatisfied but are powerless. They claim that the United States promised them protection, and are surprised that they are not treated with the same consideration as the Samoans.
Hon. Mr. Foster's Marriage.
Orrawa, July 10.
lnterviews with Bishep Lewis, Anglican Bishop of Ontario, and other prominent clergymen are published here this evening ‘n regard to the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. G.E. F ster, after having had to obta:n a divorce frog her husband from a Chicago court. Bishop Lewis says no such mar- riage would be recognized by the Church of England, and he doubts whether such a divorce is valid in Canada.
Rev. Henry Pollard agreed with Bishop Lewis, and added that it was a pity a min- ister of the crown had contracted a matr- riage of such a doubtful character.
Rev. F. W. Farries said that according to the laws of this country, a Chicago omen on grounds upon which Mrs. Chis- — obtained hers is not valid, and there-

SuMMER CarnivaL.—The St John Summer Carnival and Electrical Exhibition will open in that city on the 22ud July, inst. The Steam Navigation Company have arranged for return tickets from Charlottetown to St. John for $3.50. These tickets will be issued on Saturday, 20th and Monday 22nd, and will be good to return up to and on Saturday, 27th. There will likely be a large attendance from the Island.
