es Tue North Sydney Herald says: William Sinclair, an experienced Colorado and Nevada Miner,discovered an excellent vein of silver ore On Silver Mountain, Whycocomagh, a few days ago. The vein is twenty feet thick, and fr. Sinclair says the silver is far superior to any he has seen in Nevada or Colorado. He a8 also discovered ucar the same place a six foot vein of Galiua and silver, which average 81 per cent lead, and two and a helf ounces cf Silver to the ton on the surface. Fish.—The Mackerel catch contin®es to fall off, the total quantity landed by the fleet since Friday being about 9,000 bble, against 11,000 bbis, same time last week. The great body of Mackerel clings close to the shore in shoal water, and fishermen cannot throw their seines without great danger of tearing them. Prices are firm, with sales of inspected lots at outports at $3 to $3.50 for No 3 ; $5 50 for No 2; and $12.50 for No 1. Separate lots of late caught shore No 3 are held at $3 50 to $4

per bbl. Sales include ai lot of P. E. Island uuculled Mackerel at $2.75 per bbl, in bond. There is a fair jobbing trade, and _ dealers

are getting a slight advance on best quality, but prices still rule low compared with last year. Codfish are in better demand and sales include some 1,000 qtls Nova Sectia at $3 50 to $3.75 for large dry Bank $3 75 to $4 for dry Shore; and $3.25 to $3.50 for pickle cured Shore. Pickle cured Bank are scarce and command $2.75 per qut!t. Nothing of consequencs doing Hake, Had- dock or Pollock. A little more inquiry has been developed for Pickled Herring, but there will not be many wanted befcre

Great excitement prevails in Atlanta, Ga., over the report that a cuel has being arranged between Colonel Gault, editor of the Banner Watchman, and Alexander Connell, representative from Decatur Co, Connell recently introdyced a bill requiring that all bachelors after their thirtieth year should pay au annual tax to the State of $2.50, which fund was to be applied for educational purposes. In criticising Con- nell, Gault said he had proven himself unfit to be the ‘‘end man” of a tenth class min-
