Coroner Earle decided that an in- quest was unnecessary. A daughter of the old man, a single woman of forty years, rished in our big fire, a fact that has only just been made publie.—si. John News.

H. M. §S. Orient arrived at Halifax on Monday with the 101st Regiment, having sailed from Bermuda on Monday last. Of the 1,000 men that left Cyprus, only about 650 arrived in Halifax, numbers of the men having been compelled, through sick- ness, to remain at «Malta, Gibraltar and

ermuda. They landed in the afternoon and took their quarters at the Wellington Bavracks. A number of the men are still sick with Cyprus fever, but there have been no deaths. The 20th Regiment has been ordered by tejegram received on Monday to immediately get ready to em- bark for Cyprus instead of Gibraltar. They will embark either on Wednesday or Thursday. AS
