Loxpox, Sept 7.--The Times Simla correspondent says that in addition to dispersing the Laghmanis who had been

about to join the Mullah, the Ameer’s troops scattered a body of Khinwaris who

hold the Kyber pass for the Afridis. The Ameer, the correspondent says, is plainly determined to keep tne tribesmen in check and measures will be taken by his orders that will cripple the Mullah power and probably prevent a further rising.

Henry Clews, of New York,reports that trade movements show ne abatement of their universally hopeful aspect. In the merchandise markets, the increased de- mand is producing a steady advance jin prices. ‘he iron trade continues to gain in activity, and the rise in values is extend- ing over the whole range of metallic pro- ducts. Tlie woolen factories are clearing off their past accumulations of etocks and conservatively increasing their outpnt. The cotion goods tiade, though in a stage of tne season when orders contract, is yet doing more than a good average business for this period of the year. Cotton has been showing a fairly firm tendency in epite of a prospective crop of 9,000,000 bales. In brief, in all the large pranchee of trade, there isthe same story of conservative activity, increasing demand and an upward tendency in prices, while railroad earn- ings coutinue to show large increases.
