Brainpower Loss To U.S. Feared

OTTAWA (CP)—Canada may lose more of its scientific brain- Power to the United States as a Fesult of the success of the American space program.

This fear was expressed Wed- nesday by spokesmen for the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada, which represents some 5,600 scientific and professional workers em- ployed by the federal govern-

ment.

Officials of the Chemical stitute of Canada and the C dian Council of Professional En- gineers also said private indus. try ‘stands to lose additional basic research scientists at- tracted to the U.S. mainly by the challenge of space travel.

The National Research Coun- ¢il and the Defence Research Board, the two federal govern- ment agencies engaged in space research, said the new cruiting drive for space scientists in the U.S. has not yet been felt by these two government bodies.

However, Dr. E. W. R. Stea- elie, president of NRC, said “we ean't say what will happen in the future.”

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration in the U.S. now is in the process of recruit- ing 2,000 additional scientists and engineers, The agency al- ready has a staff of 6,000.

Chaplain Named To Princess Pats

EDMONTON (CP) — Capt 8. H. Clarke of Pembroke, Ont., has been appointed Protestant ¢haplain for the 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia's Cana dian Light Infantry, it was an- nounced Wednesday.

The Anglican chaplain is a graduate of Bishop's University at Lennoxville, Que., and was Tector of St. John the Evangel ist Church at Smiths Falls, Ont., before joining the Army Service Corps at Camp Borden in 1960
