It appears that the vessel sunk off Mumbles Head on the 29th ult , was not the steamer *‘Black Watch” as first suppos- ed, but another steamer of similar tonnage and carryivg about the same crew.
As a means for the prevention of collisions at sea, Semens Brothers & Co., of Berlin, recommend the use on steamers of a fog Iyht with revolving parabolic mirror, with power a thousand times greater than that of a lantern.
On the 3lst ult., an avalanche, 3 miles from Crested Beetle, Colurado, carried away the works of the Howard & Smith Anthracite Coal Mines, also a building con- taining 38 employes. After several hours work the men were dug out, but Philiph Carming, Logan, Inmau, Louis, Richards, Wm. Moore, Charles Betts, J. J. Raymond, another, pame unknown, were dead. A locomotive was also swept from the track yesterday in the same vicinity, and buried
under 20 feet of snow.
