sir,-The time seems opportune for someone to say I few words about the importance of the big athletic field day on Memorial Field, Victoria Park, Charlotte- town, on July 3 (Festive Week).

The officials in charge will be very busy men from now till the big display of sport events is over. and may not be able to devote the time and thought which this big day of field sports merits.

The list was published I few days ago. and it is noticeable that it is I complete list of standard even-ts-thereby giving a greater number of athletes a chance to compete. On previous occasions the "meets", under the supervis- ion of Brigadier Reid. with his competent assistants, have been hand-led with systematic order and precision.

There ought to be I large num- ber of aspiring athletes from all parts of this Province, and main- land associations will likely send 1 over some good teams. They sent.

Poulton Retains .Title. In Sixth Round TKO

A cool. methodical. hard punch- lniz Harry Poulton last night slic- cessfully defended his Mal-lttmc welterweight title by winning a. technical knockout over Howard Leslie of Saint John. N. B. at 1.27 of the sixth round in a scheduled twelve rounder at the Forum.

Poulton salted the fight away with a vicious one two in Les- lIe'a corner. A left to the jaw followed by a right uppercut to the chin dropped Leslie to the canvas on his back. He rolled over onto his stomach but man- aged to regain his feet at the count of nine. Referee Jinx Jen- kins examined Leslle' and wisely stopped the fight.

From the end of the second round on it pppeared to be only a matter of time. Poulton drop- ped Leslie for I nine count in the second. sent the Saint John hoy into kayo-land a second be- fore,the bell in the fifth anvl outfought him In between limes.

Buddy Lund. the Island light- weight champion took a six rounil decision from Crosby Irving of Saint John in the semi-final. Lund. the aggressor most of the way had too much ring savvy for his opponent although he was outweighted by 17 pounds. Lund weighed 130. Crosby. 147.

Poulton and Leslie both came into the ring at 144 pounds with Poulton having a slight advantage in reach over his stockier oppon- ent.. They fought through the first round nnd half the second on fairly even terms with the rather small sized crowd shout- ing for the City boxer.

Then Poulton caught his oppon- ent near the ropes about the two minute mark of the second round. He shot out A left and followed up with a right uppcrcut to the ntouth and nose to knock Leslie sprawling for a nine count.

Leslie's nose was bleeding pro- fusely in the third round .-is Poul- ton kept jahhlns! home his left. Leslie. IIS grime as they come. took the initiative about the middle of the session and lnn(le'l several hard blows on Poulton's jaw.
