Pinep.—A belligerent parent entered the public school on Chapel Street, Souris, and threatened to make mince meat of one of the teachers because one of his boys bad received aslight castigation the day before. Com- plaint was laid before M McCormack, J. P., who heard the case on W ednesday last, when a fine of fifty cents, with costs, was exacted from the defendant.

Horst Nores.—A correspondent writes: * Abdallah Messenger, 4869, the sire of soine of the finest stock in P. E. Island is looking well. He will stand this season in Summer side, Charlottetown, Cape Traverse, Crapaud, Kensiogton and Emerald. Joursauistic.—The first number of the Globe, Fredericton’s new weekly paper, is at band. lt is well filled with interesting news matter, andis nicely printed. We wish the enterprising publishers, Messrs. Crockett & Machum, every success with their venture.

Methodist Topics is the name of a weekly newspaper just started at Toronto, the first number of which came to hand to-day. It is well filled with matter of especial interest to people of that denomination of Christians.

Mars.—A correspondent complains that the out-going mail closes too early each evening. He thinks that as the mail does not leave until six each morning it would be as well to keep the bags open at least until eleven at night, instead of closing at half-past nine as is now the case: that is, if the bags cannot be kept open until an hour before the departure of the steamer, as in the summer season. The postal authorities will, no doubt, give the matter their atten-

Anti-Carlist Demonstration, RIOTING.

‘ Mapxip, April 10.

The arrival of the Carlist Leader, the Marquis of Curalbo, at Valencia to-day, was made the occasion of an anti-Carlist demonstration. Thousands of anti-Carlists followed the Marquis to the hotel. The crowd smashed many windows of the hotel and tried to set fire to the building, The troops charged and dispersed the mob, and many persons were injured A mob of 3,000 people invaded. the Carlist Club and set fire to the furniture. Another mob tried to burn a church but were pre- vented by the troops, who failed to disperse the constantly gathering crowds. The lat- ter built two barricades in the streets. The military authorities have taken possession of the city. The whole garrison is under arms,

The Leblanc demonstration at St. Vin- cent de Pau! was a magnificent success, and in fact the current is setting in so strongly against the Mercier Governmenr in this district that even the Minister’s supporters, while they hope to hold their own in (Quebec district, admit that Taillon will sweep Montreal district.
