We the Ofﬁce-bearers and Members of the Highland Society of Prince Edward Island, constituted by charter a branch of the Highland Society of London. cheerfully embrace the opportu- nity afforded us by a general meeting of our Society, to offer to your Excellency our respectful and cordial congratulations on your Excellency’s assumption, of the Government of this Colony. The Highland Society of Prince Edward Island, although in this distant portion of the empire, cherish all the faithful attachment to the Throne for which their ancestors have been conspicuous; and they are happy to be enabled now to renew the assurance of their ﬁrm attachment to the British Constitution, and, to the person and government of Her Most Gracious Majesty.

We avail ourselves of the present opportunity of announcing to your Excellency that the ofﬁce of Chief of this Society has become vacant by the departure of our late respected Lieute- nant Governor, Sir Charles A. The route proposed to be taken by the Steamer was—once a Week between Miramichi and Charlottetown, calling at Be- lleqne on the voyage to the former place, but not on the re- turn; andevery alternate week twice between Charlottetown and Pictou, and in the intermediate week once between Pictou and Georgetown, and once between Pictou and Charlottetown.

Trusting that there may yet be elicited sufﬁcient public spi- ﬁt to carry on this undertaking, the Committee have the honor to offer these remarks.
