A deputation of ministers and other temper ance men waited on Hon.§Messrs. Bowell and Foster yesterday, supporting the Prohibition motion before Parliament. Mr. Foster re- plied at length saying that the will of the people when ascertained would be carried out. But, he said, seven anda half millions loss of revenue must be supplied by direct taxation as it was uscless to talk of raising the amount by customs taxation.

Havirax, May 26.—Herring are reported very plentiful to-day at Perce, but continue to be scarce at all the other stations in Quebec as wellas on the shores of northern New Brunswick and P FE. 1. The catch was fair at Port Hood, C. B., but scarcely any were taken at any other point on the Cape Breton coast, and the only report of any taken in Nova Scotia was a fair haul at Port La Tour. The hau! of lobsters was very good to-day at Perce (Que.), and at Point Escuminac, N. B., so many are being taken, that it is reported that some [factories will have to stop fishing to clear what is slready on hand. The fishery continues good also eu the north coast of P. E. I, On the Cape Breton coast, the catch was gocd at Port Hood and fair at Arichat; in Nova Scotia fair at Spry Bay and Ports Latour and very good at Pubnico and Digby. Mackerel are abundant at Pubnico, and Johns Island, N. 8., aud a few very fine ones were taken to-day, at Digby. United States seiners in port at Liverpvol, report not one achool seen yet. The herring fishery at the Magdalen Islands is reported a failure and many bankers are compelled to leave there without being bated.
