Judge Taschereau gave judgment to-day in the case of R. A and J, Stewart, wood merchants, of St. John, N. B. The action was for half a million dollars, against the Bank of British North America, on the ground that the Bank had refused to honor a couple of the said firm's checks at its St. John Branch. The Bank met the action by a plea that the court here had no jurisdic- tion, as the case of action did not originate in the limits of the Province of Quebec, as the action had been served upon Mr. Grindley in Montreal. The Judge went elaborately into the question, and decided that the service was perfectly valid
