Splendid reports from the sec- retaries of 15 institutes showed that a great deal of work had been accomplished during the year. This was followed and highlighted by a panel discussion on "Rural Ed- ucation, snd its Future." under the chainrianship of Mrs. George Dixon. Clyde River with Mrs. Vic- tor McPhall. Meadowbank. Mrs. Albert McDonald. New Dominion and Mrs. Mack MacNeil, Long Creek, the members of the panel. This was very cspably handled, well ,' nod and pleasingly given.

MEMORIAL SERVICE

An impressive Memorial Service was conducted by Mrs. John Beer in memory of departed members during the year namely: Mrs. George Livingstone and Mrs. C.D. McLean. both of Clyde River.

Mrs. Plillip Matheson brought greetings and good wishes from the Provincial Executive and gave an intesestlng talk on the different phases of Institute work. CLUB WORK

Mrs. Maylea Manning, Super- visor. congratulated the 4.3 ciubs "of South-West Queens on doing the largest percentage of club work on the Island. Mrs. Manning gave an inspiring talk on Institute work in general. and her display entitled "Odds and Ends" was a very in- teresting featur of the afternoon. She also congratulated the instit- utes on their second program Planning contest and displayed several 1955 institute Programs. Guest Speaker for the afternoon was Mr. K.A Parker. Supervisor of-City Schools. speaking on the F icational Crisis facing the rural schools of P.E.l. In his opening re- marks, Mr. Parker said he was tremendously impressed by W work being done under the leader- ship of Women's institutes. He

urged the Institutes to take the necessary steps to see that educa. iional development on P.E.I. com- pares favorably with that of other 'pr. vlnces. so that the young people who remain with us will stand up favorably and those leave will also compare favorably. He told the Convention that our children were our greatest resources and said that he did not see evidence that P.E.I. was investing the same urn- ount in Education as in other re- sources.

Mr. Parker strongly advised the removal of Grades 9 and 10 from one room rural schools to a central school.
