Notes From Fast Point.
Tue heavy rain of last week has made the roads very bad, thus causing a great inconven- ience to those who have not fivished hauling their firewood and rails. On Wednesday, the 2nd inst., Mr. Jas. Chevarie met with what might bave resulted in a serious accident. Whilefoat driving on; East Lake his horse, a valuable one, broke, through the ice, which was very thin, Mr. Chevarie managed to keep the horse from sinking until help arrived, which was about a half an hour afterwards, They succeeded in getting the horse on solid footing, not much the worse for his orld bath. Had isnot been for he pluck of Mr, Chevarie and the time'y arrival of ase’stance, the noble animal would certainly have succumbed. A very happy event occurred here recently, in which two lovivg hearts were made to beat agone. Mr. Stepben McDonald, assist- ant bookekeeper in the firm of Mesers, Strong & Co., was united in the bonds of matrimony to one of Cape Breton’s fairest daughrers. After the marriage ceremonies were peiform- ed aud the bridal dinner partaken of. the happy couple, accomp «nied by a gay concourse of people, drove to Harmony Station, where they boarded the train en route to the Pacific coast. We wish Mr. and Mrs. McDonald a long life and happiness A grand concert was held in East Point schoolhouse on Monday evening, 29:n ult. The prograznme was well selected and ably carried out. The vocal duet by the Misses Strong was rendered in elegant style, but the piece of the evening was “Nancy Hogan's Goose ” sung in a beantiful tenor voice by 4 juvenile comic. The concert re fleets much credit on the directors, Professors Furlong and Lasens The ice is fast disappearing fron the Gu'f, and it is the opinion of all that it will be aa early spring for fixhing The lobster factory at East Point own-d by D-nnis Murphy is undergoing repairs.
