Lost His Horss.—Mr, J. A. Murphy met with a serious loss on the 14h inst., in the drowning of bis very vaiuable driv- ing boree, which happened near jaw Point while his brotser, Mr. B. Murphy, was returning from Lot 16. A fog had settled down upon the ice, rendering the course undiscercable, snd Mr. Murphy kept too close to the land, where an epen- ing makes early. Mr. Murphy had a narrow escape from drowning, having broken through the ice several times in endeavoring to help the horse out.—Sum- merside Journal.

Witt Gat wo Divipexp.—A Montreal despatch says: The creditors of the de funct firm of J.C & G.D. Warrington, wholesale cheese expnters of this city, willin all probability get no dividend from theesta'e. This, hovever, is nota matter of suprise, us it has been generally acknowledged ever since the failure of the firm took place that matters were in a most deplorable condition, and that thire were practically no assets. The claims filed with the curator, Mr. Jobn W. Rose, amount to $275 000, and he states ina report be hae issued that there are practicelly no assets.

THe Univexy Taiareen.— Peculiar features in regard to the euperstition con- vecied with the number 13 were involved in the death of James Powers, window washer, at Chicago, happening ae it did on the 13th of the month. He was em- ployed on July 13, 1898, to take the place of John Miller, a window washer, whe met Lis death ov that day, falling from the same window from which Fowers fe)]. The window ia the thirteenth window frem the groumd. The dead man was 26 years old—twice 13. Miller, the first man to meet his death from that uolucky win- dow, had worked just 39 days—three times 13—when he fel) and was killed.

At Elmira, on March 7th,of la grippe, William H. Mellick, in the 56th year of bie age. He lefta widow and seven chil- doen, besides a large number of relatives, to mourn their irreparable loss.

Peacefully passed away, at White Sands on Saturday, the 18th .nst, E:lzabeth Jane, the dearly beloved wife of Wiliam Jd, Nicolle, aged 3) years, She leaves a sorrowing .bueband, five brothers, three sisters, and five smalichildren to mourn her early death.
