Diabetes Campaign Kicko

The Prince Edward Island Division of the Canadian Diabetes Association will be holding the annual campaign kickoff at Myron’s on Wednesday, October 30. This year’s event the “Island Country Jam: features six Island bands including: Silver Fire, Randy J. Martin, Urban Outlaws, Betty Lou Jordan & Final Touch, 1-40 Smooth Bore, and Kickin’ Country. Tickets are $6.00 each and the Jam commences at 8 p.m. Everyone 19 and over are welcome to attend.

November is diabetes month, and this event helps create awareness for the Canadian Diabetes Association, PEI Division. The mission of CDA is “to promote the health of Canadians through diabetes research, education, services, and advocacy.” One of the services provided by the PEI Division is our children’s summer camp. We are pleased to be the only province with a no-fee camping program for children with diabetes.

Diabetes is now in epidemic proportions in Canada. In fact, statistics show that by the year 2004, one in four Canadians will have diabetes. Currently, more than 5,000 Islanders have diabetes, and over 45 new cases are diagnosed each month.

Please support the Canadian Diabetes Association when a canvasser comes to your door in November. Your gift goes a long way.
