the Conservatives claim to

_ be the Party of the Causeway ! !

The Conservatives, on the eve of this election,

are trying desperately to use the Causeway as their stepping stone to political success. Yet, all Islanders know that during the past six years the Matheson Government has promoted and. ac- tively worked to make the Causeway a reality. We quote from a recent newspaper editorial :-

“Only one serious problem confronts Prince Edward Island at present -- that of assured and adequate transportation facilities across North- umberland Strait. On this question, Premier Matheson has endeared himself to the thought- ful men and women of this province by the courageous one-man fight he has waged against

the indifference, or at least the apathy of the

federal government.”

There is every reason to believe the F

Conservative Government will make a last-dit

gesture by promising action on the Causeway.

Obviously, the purpose will be to try and-induce the voters of this province to forget the consist- ent efforts of Mr. Matheson and, such a promise at this time, would only be made for immediate political gain. |

It is inconceivable that the people of this Island, with their traditional sense of independence, could be intimidated on a matter which is en- tirely a Federal responsibility.

Your Provincial Liberal Partv considers the Causeway above Party politics. It should not be a political football.
