The Scott Act in Souris.

The Scott Act seems to be a dead | letter in Souris. There are four ruin shops now in full blast in that little village ana all through the veglect of the sub-Inspector of License. Whenthe suo-Inspector took «flice the rum traffic in Souris was entirely stopped, except what was sold by the Ven- dor. Drunken men now parade the streets during the greater part of the night. The sub- Inspec ctor will do nothing to stop this state of attairs unless he is furnished with the strongest kind of evidence, and then al- most compelled to act. It seems as if he does wish for evidence, and that there is something rotten in Denmark. He is very quick in making raids on women who vio- late the Scott Act, but is quite blind to the doings of sturdy men who are far greater offenders. The sub- Inspector of License lately called on the Vendor in Souris and requested him to show him his register so that he could see the names of tho parties who purchase liquor off him, and thus com- pel them to purchase from theillicit rumseller sooner than have thair names exposed. There is neither honesty nor justice in such ofticiousness; but'on the contrary such acts are well calculated to injure the temperance cause, and call for redress.
