OTTAWA. (CP)-Sight years ago me Russians lowered the Iron Curtain between George F. Power and his wife, the former star bal- lerina of Moscow's Bolshoi The- stre.

In the two years. that followed. Power became an international figure as Canada sought again and again to extricate Mrs. Power. the former Eleonora Kusnetsova. from Russian hands. The Soviets gave no reason but steadfastly refused her an exit visa. she divorced him in 1947 and he obtained a divorce from Parliament three years later.

Saturday morning after eight years during which his predica- ment set him apart from others,

George Power died. His brother, wllliam. said that for several days before his death from a brain hemorrhage George talked in his delerlum of Eleonora.

ST. JOHN'S. Nfld.. (OP)-Ralph B. Herder, president of the St. John's Evening Telegram and a director of The Canadian Press. died here Saturday night following :1 short illness. He was 60.

Mr. Herder, president of the family-owned newspaper since 1936. entered hospital New Year's day following a heart. attack. He suf- fered another attack Saturday and died a. few hours later.

A son of the late W. J. and Eliza- beth Barnes Herder. Ralph Barnes Herder was born Aug. 10. 1894. lie started his newspaper career in 1918 with the newspaper "founded by his father in 1819.
