dental clinic is expected to be ready to open in about two weeks in the former Smallman building on the corner of Water and Gent- ral streets. now owned by Mr. I-Iarold Gaudet. It will be located on the; second floor with an en- trance on Central Street and the premises are being renovated to provide the latest in this particu- l8l' type of accommodation.

For the present there will be four doctors and one dentist, Dr. Vin- cent Grant. The doctors and their specialties are:. Dr. J. C. Simpson. surgery; Dr. A. R. Grant. surgery; Dr. J. K. Beer. surgery; Dr. John Downing, internal medicine. It is planned to have an eye. ear, nose and throat specialist Join the clinic in the near future and pos- sibly other doctors who have spec- ialized will come here later on.

Dr. Simpson and the two Dr. Grants are presently practising in summerside and Drs. Beer and Downing are completing postgrad- uate studies in Montreal.

This building previously housed Smallman's furniture store and was purchased by Mr. Gaudet last December. It is now all rented. Both Simpson's and Eaton's have opened order offices on the second floor and the Enman Drug Co. Ltd. plan to open a branch drug store in the near future. S

Special sewn; 'At Springfield West

A VBIY large congregation as- sembled at the Springfield Wcst Baptist Church Sunday night. There was a special Mother's Day sermon, also a dedication service. Venetian blinds were presented to the church by Mr. and Mrs. Earl Phillips and family and dedicated in loving memory of Mrs. Philllps' mother and father, the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Smallman of Forest View, P.E.I., and was very graciously accepted by the whole congregation. A new carpet was laid in the aisle and a beautiful rug was laid on the pulpit Tloor. There was a large bouquet of car- nations in memory of Mrs. J. C. Wilkinson by son George and Rita. There was a bouquet of flowers by Ivey Waite and family in memory of Mrs. Waite.

Rev. C. O. Howlett preached a very appropriate sermon for the occasion. Special music was ren- dered by the choir with Mrs. George Ellis as organist. A duet by Mrs. Melvin Ellis" and Mrs. Ralph Ellis, "I Remember Mother" was greatly enjoyed. A new Com- munion table was presented to this church last year in memory of the late Ralph Ellis. by his wife and son Heber. A new Bible was also given to the church in mem- ory of Mrs. Wilkinson last year by her son George and Rita. Along with the nicely kept cemet- ery this little country church is included among the most beautiful on the Island.

MR. CHARLES COLWILL

Although the people of Northam and vicinity had been aware of the critical condition of Mr. Char- les Colwill for weeks. when death came on April 30th It cast a deep gloom over the countryside. When

n" l aid proved of no avail, he had been moved from the Prince County Hospital to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Le Clark of Granville st.. summerl-'sTdh&awhere the tender love and care f his wife, his daughter and grand- daughter cheered his last days. After his death. the remains were brought to his home in Northom, where he had lived since his mar- riage in 1903, and whcre,for many months he had suffered and been comforted by his wife. his son Athol and wife (Edna Ramsay), and their family.

Deceased was s son of the late John Colwill of Northam. where Charles was born seventy-two years ago. He was a man who was liked by all. as he had that cheer- ful, friendly disposition so much admired. He was a true friend to all his friends. and wherever he chanced to be. people seemed to forget their little worries and to be happy In having someone near who was interested in their wel- fare.

He is survived by his sorrowing widow (nee Elizabeth MacArthur), also two sons and one daughter: Hnvsy. of Sherbrooke; Athol. on the homestead; and Mrs. Lena Clark. of summeraidc, also one brother. Woodland. of Northam, and two sisters: Mrs. Edward Mil- lar '(Blanche) of Lot 18. and Mrs. James MacKsy (Laura) of Coch- ituate. Mass.

After a short service at the house. consisting of prayer. Scrip- ture reading. and the singing of "safe In the Arms of Jesus," the long procession of 96 cars followed the remains to the Tyne Valley Presbyterian Church. where an Impressive service was conducted by Rev. R. H. Baxter of Bideford. assisted by Rev. Donald Maclfay of aummerside. Mr. Baxter. In his address. brought a comforting message to the bereaved. assuring them that death is not the end. but that we have a glorious hope of Immortality beyond the grave. The hymns sung were, "The Lord's My shepherd". "Forever With the Lord". and "Abide with Me". A solo. "Does Jesus Care?" was very beautifully rendered by Mr. Roy Phillips.

Moe Martin aat cross-legged on the floor in front of one of the high wall ” kcasea. Beside him was piled a great stack of papers. folders and books. Moe's round bald spot giistened with perspira- tion in the light from a table lamp almost above him.

A big. curly-headed man was removing more books and paper- from a wall case and passing them down to Moe Martin. Johnny judged the man was in his fort- ies. He wore white flannens and a fancy sports jacket. A briar pipe was stuck into the side of his mouth.

Mac was saying. "Well. well keep looking. You never can tell."

The big fellow mopped his neck with a handkerchief. He had thick black hair. "It'll. take hours. Be- sides. I think we're only wasting time." He handed Johnny's part- ner some more books and papers.

"Hello," said Johnny. coming in- to the room.

Moe looked around. granted as he got to his feet. He introduced his partner to the big man with the pipe.

"This is Nick Walker," he in- formsd "Johnny. "He raises horses."

Nick Walker smiled. "Hunters," he explained. "I have a. stock farm not, far from here." He and John- ny shook hands.

The man's grip was firm and powerful. He had an easy-going manner. Johnny decided he was the type of Long Islander who was wealthy enough not to worry about working for a living. Johnny wish- ed he had enough money so he could own an estate and raise hunters.

"We're looking for that manu- script which Irene was supposed to be writing." he said. "Irene has been questioned a dozen times, of course. but she has no idea what we're talking shout," Momentar- fly the smile had left his face.

Johnny asked. "By the way, where is she? Kay said..."

"Outside on the terrace." Nick Walker motioned toward one of the doorways across the wide room. "It was so hot. Nancy's Wllll her."

Johnny nodded. He looked down at the pile of stuff on the floor. "Find anything?"

Moe shook his head. "I can't understand it. That. manuscript ought to be here." Determination came into his worried-looking eyes. "I'll find it if I have to go through every bookcase in this llbrary." He waved his hand. indicating lh-9 many ceiling-high cases. and. his arm sort of stopped in midair. --can you lmagine buying all these books?" he asked in amazement- "That just goes to show that any author has a chance." ”

The proceeds for the year lamounted to 5584.58 and the ex- ,pen.ses were 5254.40. leaving a bal- -ance of 5230.18. Donations were; ;madc to the T. B. League, St. .Vincent's Orphanage and fifty "dollars was given to the St. Dun- latanhs Girla' scholarship. 510.00 to :the Children's Aid Society, 310.00 ;was given to the Prince County lliospital towards iunishing a iroom. Sixteen new soutanea were Ibought for the altar boys. Cards of sympathy were sent to the bereaved members. also get-well cards to the sick and shut-ins.
