The range yesterday presented” a very |

picturesque appearance, dotted with the

uniforms of our gallant volunteers, who are holding their annual Provincial com- petition. Intermingled with them was a squad of sturdy tars from H.M. 8S. Part- ridge, who had been iavited to take part. The men were in the greatest cheer, as everything was as favorable as could be

expected. The wind was blowing slightly from left to right. This morning the wind held out from the same quarter. The men got to work in fine style, making some good scores at the 500 yards range, Lieut. E. Stewart, Sergt. J. M. Crockett and Corp. Anderson making 34 points out of a possible 35.

Mr. L. K. Prowse, M. L. A., visited the range this morning and made his annual presentation, which was received in wonted with three cheers and a Itis to be competed for by any number of teams of three each from every company, fur which 19 teams have tered. At Rona on the 30th of June last, John McLeod, in the 80th year of his age. His death was very sudden. He seemed to be in his usual health a few minutes before hisdeath. Deceased was much respected by all who knew him.

At Bonshaw, July 29th, Mary Ellen, aged 15 years and 9 month, youngest daughter of Nicholas MacNevin. She leaves a father, mother, brother and four sisters to mourn their loss.
