Students' Excursion.

On Thursday afternoon, tember 37. 1-951. the Teacher Training students of Prince of Wales College. accompanied by their principal, Dr. Frank Mac. Kinncn, their teachers, and Dr, and Mrs. Shaw. enjoyed an ex. rurslon to Green Gables and sur- rounding country.

The entire Teacher Training group left the College by h g at 2 RM. Upon arriving st 81-ggn Gables the students were separ- ated into groups and toured var- ious points of Interest, including Green Gables. the Haunted Wood, and Lovers' Lane.

Following this tour the group went to Cavendish picnic grounds where a hot supper was served under the supervision of Miss Doris Anderson of the Home Economics Department.

After supper, the group with. drew to the recreation hall and a short impromptu program, under the direction of Mr. Earl Nichol- -nn, was presented. Talented stu- dents and teachers look part in Hill program and the singing of "The King" ended a very enjoy- able party.

On September 8th. at Zion Pres- byterian Manse in Charlottetown Catherine Margaret. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander MacLen- nan, Wood Islands. was united in marriage with Spurgeon Ray. son of Mr. and lilrs. The bride wore a navy blue suit with white accessories. and a cor- sagc of white chrysaniiiemums. she was attended by her sister Alice, who wore a. wine suit with matching accessories. Her corsage was of yellow chrysanthemuma.

The groom was attended by his brother, Claude Campbell.

Following the ceremony the wed- ding party motored to the home of the bride, where a delicious wed- ding supper was served. The bride and groom were the recipients of many lovely gifts.

After a honeymoon spent in Nova Scotia. Mr. and Mrs. Camp- bell returned to Beach Grove. Char- lottetown, where both are em-

Campbell, Chief Justice, at the unveiling of the monument at Freetown on Sunday to the late Dr. Jacob Gould Schurman: "We are met here this after- noon. under the auspices of The Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada. to do honour to the memory of a truly emin- ent son of Canada. a native of Prince Edward Island and of this community.

"Until two and a. half years no. the work of the Board in this Province was in charge of Professor D. C. Harvey. himself a native of Prince County. It was largely due to his research and efforts that preparations for this monument were set on foot. and I had hoped that he would be here to deliver the dedication address. Unfortunately, pressure of his work in Nova Scotia has

His father and mother were hard-working people and devout Christians. and Jacob was brought up on their fine farm, with its notably well-kept home, in this thriving district of Upper Freetown. "In 1877 he became a Bachelor of Arts of London University. winning the highest honours. and being awarded two more scholarships. with the aid of which he spent the next year studying at the Universities of Paris and Edinburgh. In 1878 he received from Edinburgh Univer- my the degree of Doctor of Science in Mental and Moral Philosophy.
