"The minimum salary provid- ed by the Provincial Govern- ment for a teacher of the lowest clam is $287.50; the minimum supplement which must be voted by a. school district before they may engage a teacher of the lowest clam is $26, which makes

“According to the latest official classification, there are 536 rural teacinrs and 2081 square miles of prcciiiclivc land in your Island. An educational contribution of ene dime per acre from those who enjoy your land resources (and raise the children) would be sufficient to raise the saiary of every rural teacher by $247. That would be $10 a year fcr a hundred-acre farmer who-as likely as not-has from one to three children school.

"That diine-an-acre contribution would amount to approximately $133,000. The amount of P E I. revenue from field crops, farm ani- mals, dairy products, eggs and sawmill products in 1936 was a- round $14,000,000. You can see for yourselves that on a policy of "one egg in every hundred for educa- tion" (applied to the M8101‘ Pm" ducts of your land) the economic condition of P. E. I. rural teach- ers and the educational outlook of the Province could completely transformed. Is that too heavy a price?

"But." says the objector. “we are already paying, and lmylh; 9n- ough." Let us turn to page 59 of the Departmental report. The 34 school districts there listed have a total area of 103.498 acres, and vote for their schools a total amount of $5216.41; that is. just over 5 cents an acre or $5 00 per hundred-acre fann. No wonder so many rural parents keep their children home half the time when education means so little to them in money sacrifice."

Larger School Units

'I‘iie larger school unit, says the bulletin, is being very widely ad- vocated as the next forward move in Education in the Provinces. In Alberta and British Columbia the reform is now far advanced. Prom Saskatchewan to P. E. I. it is be- ing urged as the greatest possiole step towards modernizing the school service. In this connection the following statement is quot-

A red tag means an emergency operation, a. green tag with a red circle in the centre calls for an op- eration of minor character, a pink tag with a diagonal blue line in- dicates that the case ls to be di.s- patched directly to a ward. a Yellow tag with a diagonal crtm in red books the patient for an x-ray ex- amination and a. blue tag calls for res‘ citation by blood transfusion or other means. Where a patient requires both resuscitation and an emergency operation, two tags are used. a blue one and a red one. Strict instructions are given that the tags shall be tied to some part of the natientk body.
