The young men taking air cadet training can obtain many benefits if they complete the full three year course. Perhaps one of the most interesting reward: is the free Fly- ing Training course which is pro- vided by the R. C. A.l". This course which lasts four weeks is given at various flying clubs across Can- ada. on successful a pletion of the course, cadets are awarded the cadet pilot wings.

Another very interesting rcivnrrll is the yearly exchange visits to the U. K. and Europe. one cadet has been nominated by the squad- ron for this trip, but as yet the selections have not been announc- ed by the Air Cadet League of Canada. Numerous other benefits are available such as scholarships to universities, trade training courses during the summer months. Senior Leaders courses. two weeks summer camp at an l'-t.C.A.l". sta- tion. and if joining the R.C.A P., accelerated rank on entry.

The inspectlo I on Thursday eve- ning will indicate the degree of efficiency these young men have obtained in their drill. The static display at the R.C.A.P'. clubrooms will typify the training that they have been receiving during the past year. PVLt.Rayner has stress- ed the fact that both the inspec- tion and the static display are open to the general public.

The local Sea Cadets were con- gratulated on being so keen about their work and on being so smart- ly turned out. The Chief of Staff to Rear Admiral R. E. S. Bidwell. C.B.E., C.D.. R.C.N., Flag Officer of the Atlantic Coast, was paying his first visit to this Province and expressed his pleasure at inspect- ing "such a fine Division."

The Sea Cadets were on parade with upwards of 60 in attendance as they marched through city streets and past the saluting base on Kent Street. where Capt. Littler took the salute. The order of march was Guard, Band and the Division.

Later in the Naval Barracks the Captain presented the corps with a. plaque on behalf of Rear Admiral J. Pullen.

Two cups. presented by Lieut. John Smailwood. officer command- ing the corps. for New Entry Pro- gressing ln Corps for the season 1952-1953, were awarded to AB. Cadet Beverley Richards and AB. Cadet Lorne Vessey. The Com- munications Badge was presented to Leading Cadet Arthur Cauty.

Demonstrations in Reading

The first of a series of demoti- strzitlons in reading was given to over 35 teachers in the Tignish area yesterday by Miss Kathryn Moculley, B.Sc. (Edi of the Wis- consin Teachers' College. The denionstration was for the bene- fit of those teaching the primary grades of one to four. It was sponsored by the W. G. Gage Co.. Toronto. whose school books are in use here.

Arrangements for these demoii- strations were made by the local Department of Education and its representative Mr. Malcolm Mac- Kenzie is attending the sessions Also present was the company rep- resentative Mr. Arthur Alexander.

During the sessions opportunity is provided for a discussion of reading problems presented by the teachers.

Today there will be similar dcmoiistratlons in O'Leary and to- morrow in Charlottetown for the

1; Montague Wednesday, and Sou- ris on Thursday. Sessions are hold both morning and afternoon and teachers are free to attend as it is considered a teaching day.

One fisherman there said it was the worst he had seen in 40 years and described it as far worse than last yea.r'.s early season storm. Many of the fishermen did not succeed in locating all their lines although many boats were out until dusk as the ll5llelTf'IEI1 tried to make repairs at sea. They hope to be able to pick up more lines today.

Several truck loads of traps were salvaged on the sandy shorc between Albcrton Harbour and the Gap and most Alberton fish- ermen expect to be able to get enough gear together to continue fishing operations.

At Tignish Harbour the boats were unable to get out yesterday until noon owing to the pounding of heavy surf at the port cntr-.ir.cc and no attempt was made to land lobsters. However. all gear locat- ed was brought ashore for sort- ing and repairing. All the fish- ermen agreed they had never be- forc seen their traps and lines in such bad shape.
