They're independent of the dramatists, and I should think they would. just step on the stage and talk their plays. But they don’t do that. They merely con- tent themselves with refusing to speak this or that line because it’s ‘rotten,’ substituting something of their own, kod then saying it’s the fault of the au- thor that nobody laughs at their stupid gags.
