Agrand refreshment saloon was provided, and spacious beoths were erected, wherein could be seen the lassie in her teens, the matronly lady, the laddie in his teens, and the gentleman of three score—“tripping thé light fantastic” to the strains of delightful music. Much credit i due the ladies for the numerous and magnificent baskets they supplied on the occasion, the sale of which realized 4 dandsome eum.

The committee are alo deserving of the thanks of all parties for their choice of a site for the occasion, A more beautiful view ofthe villageand harbor of Souris and surrounding country could not be had than from the farmof Mr. Cantwell. The day was fine and everybody was pleased and all went happy asa marriage beil.—Com.

Boers Maltreat Refugees

Loxpon, October5 —Accerding ‘to 4 despatch from Lorenzo Marques, Porta- guese East Africa, a crowd of Boers who were aseembled at the Machadorp station forced the refugee passengers to uncover dnring the singing of a Boer national air, and seyerely maltreated several Englishmen, stabbing one and kicking and trampling upon others. It is reported there also that two ladies have been outrageously assaulted at Paardekop station by the Boers, one being struck in the face by a rifle shoved through the railway carriage window and the other s:ruck by her as eailant’s fists.
