Readers oi the lite oi Rev. J. H. Juwett, well-known English preacher. now dead, who was cali- cd back to London by the King during the First World War, may Twill that he never spoke to his minister nor shook hands with him. He was brought up in Hall- fs-x, Yorkshire, England and "sat under" a man called Myers, and jet when Jowett was giving his Yale lectures on preaching he had this minister in the back o! his mind as the ideal which he de- sired to interpret to the students. The preachers of a. bygone time k611i themselves more aloof than now. perhaps we have gone w the other extreme.

The minister that I recall was W“ W b6 (BM by no less an auth- ority than Dr. A. MscLean Sin- clair) the best Gaelic scholar liv- mg. The congregation was made up almost wholly by people oi Highland Scotch extraction. When the old minister gave them a,good dresslng down, they would say: "And was he na grand the day?"
