Axovt the last of July a lad ten years of age, named Frank Fraser, a son of Joseph Fraser, Cornwallis, N. 8., was bitten by a horse. The wound healed, and apparently little attention was paid to it, but some ten days after he complained of pain, which rapid- ly developed, and the poison seemed to per- meate his whole system, and he died two days after the bite, sufferivg great agony.

Last evening a bottle containing kerosene oil, and having a lamp wick in it, was discov- ered on fire in the close proximity to Mr. L. Poole’s lumber yard. It is thought that seme youths of a scientific turn of mind were try- ing an experiment with this combustible and that it having become too hot for them, they dropped 1t and retreated to a place of safety. Had it not been observed in good time, Mr. Poole’s large lumber yard might have been completely destroyed.

Berxarp Tooter, Constable, appeared at the Stipendiary Magistrate’s Court this fore- noon, charged with threatening the life of Mr. McNeill, butcher. It appears that Toole held an execution against McNeill, and yesterday at the Market seized his wagon, meats, etc. MeNeill wished to proceed with the sale of weat when Toole drew a pistol and threatened to shoot. McNeill laid information against himfor'assault. The case. ,artly heard this morning and adjourned untii Monday.

Tue Ohio conference camp meeting held at Lancaster, attracted an enormous crowd, somethiog like 18,000 people. There was preaching at twelve different points, morning, afteryoon, and eveniog, and the number of mourners at the alter was over three huodre!. The meeting closed on the 20th with a graud rally om temperance, with Gen. Neal iow, of Maine, as the principal speaker. Tis has beer the greatest camp meeting ever held in Ohiv, aud the number in attendance during the ten days was over 60,000.

A uxavy thunder storm passed over the town of Woodstock, N. B., on the 23rd, ac- companied by very heavy rain. During the storm the lichtning struck the residence of Mr, Kaward Jewett, rau all through it, and sha.terei more or less every room iu the houre. It set tire to the barn, but the flames were ex- tinguished without much damage being done Mr. Jewett and all his family were away at the Baptist suaday School picnic at Hartiand, and thus miraculously escaped. Nobody was in the house at the time This is the heaviest thunder storm they have bad there for years.

A Terrible Cyc'ones
The cyclone which passed over Rochester Minn., on the 22ud inst., was very severe. Full details have not yet been received. S. far, it is learned that the portion of the city north of the railroad, called the lower | town, received mosi of the damage. Nota house is uninjured, and not twenty are) s‘anding. It looks at a distance as if there | h.d never been a building in that portion | while in other sections the remains of the houses show the terribly destructive force of the wind. As soon as the cyclone pa:sed and the people iraghe more favored poi tions began to learn of the damaye they went to the lower town to render assistance; many working all night. All knew the destruc- tion had been fearful, but no idea of its extent could be obtained until next morn- ing, the 23rd, when its horrors were appall- ing. Commencing at J. R. Cook’s house on the St. Paul road, which was entirely demolished, the cyclone took Mr. Leland’s residence, barn and outbuildiags, not leav- ing a stick standing; thence sweeping through the lower town. It seemed as though a terrific flood had swept over this section. In many places where there had been a residence scarcely a board is left. The grass is filled with dirt and sand as if a muddy stream had poured over it. It was thought that over twenty per- sons remained in the ruins. The portion of the city swept by the cyclone included generally the poorer dwellings. The storm appeared to have formed abcut eighteen miles to the northwest of Roch- ester, gathering violence as it progressed. A lowering dun-colored funnel cloud was seen approaching and in # few moments the slaughter was accomplished. There was no time to escape. The place where the dead lay was indescribably sad. Mothers wildly searched for their children, while homeless waifs were found whom the tempest had madeorphans. One child was the only survivor of a family of seven. The cyclone started near Owatonna, fol- lowed a line nearly a mile south of the Winona railway, cressing at Rochester and following north of the road passed the last twenty-five miles three miles north of the road. It varied in width from one to three miles, and did did net skip as usual, but swept everything clear. Houses, barnaand crops are all gone, As far as heard from, about six persons are killed outside of Rochester. The loss to the crops is $300- 000 at Rochester. Ten business blocks were unroofcd and 290 houses damaged. The total loss in Rechester is $400,000. The fatal black cloud then swept toward St; Charles, five miles scutheast, cutting a wide path through the timber and farms and wrecking buildings, ete., leaving two corpses and three fatally wounded per- sons. One of the dead men was found on a tree top. The Stevens family, consist- ing of four persons, saw the approaching cloud and creeping into a huge tank cistern, were buried in the ground. Additional details say that one third of the dwellings in Rochester are in ruins, Twenty-four persons were killed and the dead are not yet all identified. The storm swept through Dodge and Olmstead counties causing greater destruction than the cyclone of a month ago. The damage in Rochester is fully $300,000. The court house, high- school building, academy and elevator at the depot, flouring mills, ten business blocks, besides a great many dwellings were unroofed. The Methodist Church is ruined and the Congregational Church is injured. More than 200 dwellings are utterly deetroy- ed. Details of losses in the country cannot be given at present but they are very great. The cyclone was heard of first at South Dodge Centre and thence east to Olmstead County, striking through Salem township, where three farm buildings were entirely destroyed, one child killed and several families injured. Much damage was done to farm property and live stock. The storm then entered Rochester, taking is course through the city. Three hundred houses were destroyed and fully twe hun- dred damaged. The Congregativnal church where thirty-five children were, who had just returned from a picnic, had its spire lown off but none of the children were hurt.
