282,800 Eligible To Vote In N.B. Today

FREDERICTON, Sept. 2i--(CF) --After more than two months of campaigning. candidates for the next New Brunswick Legislature enjoyed a rest today while awaiting tomorrow's verdict by the electorate.

The party receiving a mandate to govern the province for the next four or five years will be decided between 9 am., ADT, when polls open. and the closing time of 7 p.m.

Administration of the province's off its will either continue un- do ' the Liberal Government of Hon. John B. McNair, Premier for ihe last 12 and ti half years, or pass to Progressive Conservatives led by H. J. Flemming. No other party has enough candidates to form a government.

The decision rests with about 282,800 men and women who have been registered as eligible to vote. Saint John Clty loads the 17 con- stituencies in the number of elec-, tors with :1 total of 32,996, fol- lowed by Westmorland County with nearly 28,000 and Gloucester County with 27,079. ,

Liberals have held power since 1935. In that year A. A. Dysart. Premier McNalr's predecessor. led the Liberal forces to victory over the Conservative Government of the late L. P. D. Tilley.

The last election, in June, 1948. resulted in "a Liberal sweep of 47 seats. Progressive Conserva- tives won the other five. The standing at dissolution of the 52- seat Legislature July 16: Liberals 46 and Progressive Conservative: five, with one vacancy in the three-member riding of Kent.

NEW YORK, Sept. 18 - What is the" average income of Charlotte- town families? How much is avail- able to them for spending, afte) income taxes? How do they spend it? . Answers to these , cations, much sought after 'for commercial rea- sons, are contained in the new copyrighted survey of buying pow- er, covering Canacla. and the Unit- ed States, prepared by Sales Man- agement. . The figures show that higher in- comes and is better standard of liv- ing prevail locally. Charlottetown families recorded net earnings in 1951, after deduction for taxu, of si4.738,00. This was a gain over the 312,699,000 net income of the previous year.

Divided by the 3300 families in the city, it represented earnings of 53,878 per family, which was great- erithan the s2,'f4l earned per fam- ily, on the average. throughout the Province of Prince Edward Island.

The figures, it is pointed out, are arithmetical averages, obtained by dividing total income by total num- ber of families.

Four Girls Injured In Accident On Highway

Four young girls were taken”'to hoopitattchortly before 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon suffering from injuries received when the car in which they were driving, over- turned on the gravel highway near North River Bridge. The car, which was driven by Donnie Maiheson, is said to have made two completevoverturns, coming to a standstill right side up. Three of the injured girls are daughters of Mrs. Guy Decoste. and the fourth is a. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Kays, all of Upper Queen Street.

The experts from Britain, Can- ada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Ceylon and Southern Rhodesia will meet in private for about a month to pre- pare for the Commonwealth prime ministers' economic "conference in London November and December. .WINNIPEG, Sept. 21-(GP)-A night hideout turned into a death trap for three rboys early today when fire raced through the porch' of s. Winnipeg home. Another boy was taken to hospital with critical burns.

The dead were identified as John Elmer Shroeder, 11; Gerald Lawrence Abbott. 16. and Richard Graham, 13. In hospital is 15- year-oid Dennis John Gregory. The four boys had bedded down for the night beneath the porch of the house. The blaze was con. fined to the porch. No cause has been determined.

The boys are believed to have gone to the hideout after leaving their jobs as pin-setters in A downtown bowling alley.

The fatal adventure was the re- sult of careful planning.

Messages left with their parents gave the impression that the boys would sleep at the home of friends.

Their hideout. about 20 feet square. was entered through an opening in the porch lattice work. Police found a charred mat. tress, blanket and pillow. Three pairs of shoes were neatly laid by the mattress.
