Klondyke Mills are this year supplying the entire province with cheese boxes. Prof. Robertson in his annual report says that cheese shipped from P.E.I. in birch boxes arrived in England in better condition than that from any other part of Canada. NATIONAL FOREST WEEK - 1993 y by Ken Mayhew

The theme of National Forest Week 1993 "Our Common Ground", reflects the values people place on our forest resources. Lumber products, wildlife, recreation, environmental quality and many other values contribute to our understanding and appreciation of this vital resource.

When most people think of P.E.I., they see it in terms of its farmland. However it is the many shades of green found in forests which define our landscape as they mix with the Island's red farm fields and blue ocean waters to create a beautiful natural mosaic. This colorful tapestry attracts visitors from around the world, and provides Islanders with recreation, employment, and a healthy environment.

National Forestry Week runs from May 2nd to 8th this year and provides the perfect opportunity to both enjoy and reflect upon the many benefits healthy forests bring to all of us. During the week there will be mall displays, special plantings, the 1993 Woodlot Owner of the Year announcement and the annual Walk-A-Woodlot on the Island's six Demonstration Woodlots.

This year, many forest appreciation activities will also be held during National Environment Week. For instance, the annual Open House at the J. Frank Gaudet Tree Nursery in West Royalty has been changed from its traditional May time slot, to a new date - June 9. Other activities such as the Demonstration Woodlot Scavenger Hunts and woodlot tours with the Woodlot Owner of the Year will also be held during National Environment Week.
