Ontario students give the boot to CFS,
LONDON, Ont. (CUP) —— The Ontario Federation of Students has broken its offi- cial ties with Canada’s national student lobby group, leaving national student leaders worried about their organization’s future.
“The hastiness of a de— cision like this is dangerous,” said Beth Olley, Canadian Federation of Students chair, at the Sept. 22 to 23 con- ference of the Canadian Federation of Students- Ontario/Ontario Federation of Students.
“A national organization without Ontario wrll go down the tubes, ' Olley said.
Although the move means students in Ontarto can now focus their efforts solely on

Turner said the move is not “anti-CFS” but an attempt by Ontario students to re- cognize the problems facing their own organization and the national group.
“It’s no secret that CFS is undergoing financial dif- ficulties,” Turner added. The national federation is cur- rently has a $65,000 deficit.”

Student Union President John Bosnitch has been
threatened with suspension by UNB Presrdent James Downey.
Bosnitch was given first and final warning about his so-called recent unacceptable behavior.
Downey, in his hand de— livered Setter, stated that Bosnitch has been “harassing and threatening employees of the University of the Student Union Building Board, and the tenants of the Student Union Building”, and also charges that Bosnitch has been disregarding communi- cations from the university

The decision to. end ties means the provincial organi- zation will likely be more appealing to some institutions, such as the University of Toronto, Brock, Laurier and Windsor universities, Turner said.
Under the old policy, a new member had to join OFS, CFS-O, CFS and CFS- Services, which provides a variety of services to members. This meant a levy of $7 per student: 53 for
administration.
Bosnitch responded to the charges by saying, “A stu- dent representative has no choice but to serve his con- stituents, and when a child dies unnecessarily, or when residence students are ex- pelled without explanation, serving one’s constituents inevitably results in some conflict.”

Downey’s threat to expel Bosnitch has been attributed to the student-run Campus Services store in the SUB. This variety operation sells much the same stock at lower prices than at Belding’s cam- pus outlet.
Downey is witholding the entire Student Union budget (over $200,000) in an effort to force Bosnitch to complete his accounting procedure for the student component of the Third Century Fund. This procedure, a task which was refused by the Business Office. is almost complete. Downey has also cancelled the contract of SUB Holdings,

tion which handled the campus liquor service and will not turn over the Beaver Foods cafeteria rebates to the Student Union Building (these rebates amounted to $28,000 last year).
