Mr. Hall took oﬂ’ the harness and moved the sleigh away. but the animal did not rise. He then covered him with a rug and went to get Dr. Garland, whose home was near at hand. ‘The doctor ex- amined thc horse and found the animal to be dead. Mr. Hall said it was very seldom that a horse is over- come in a. storm. The animal was a good strong horse. and he evidently had been smothered by the heavy drifts. Dr. Garland loaned Mr. Hall a horse to continue his round. and he arrived home safely about four o'- clock. He said it was one of the worst storms he had expcrienoecL-S

-FUNERAL OF MR. 0111mm; GROGGETT - The death of Mr. Charles Groggett, of North Tryon. occurred 1n the Sunlmerside Hospi- tal on Friday, Dec. 14th, following a short illness. Deceased. who leaves to mourn his wife and one son Alfred at home, was one of the oldest and most highly mspectgd citizens of the community. He was a. faithful member of the Ti-yon United Church. In earlier days he was all attendant, not only at pub- lic worship, but at Sunday School as lvcll. Tile funeral was held on Sunday, Dec. 16th. with a. short service at the home. after which the remains were taken to the church for a service. Hymns sung were "Jesus Lover of My soul," "Rock of Ages". “Nearer My God t0 Tlivc". and "Burl of My Soul." The pail bearers were; Messrs, Hamilton lxard, George Callbeck, R. W. Dixon, Amos McWilliam. Ernest Inman and Joseph Thomp- son. The services were conducted by Rev. J. L. Lund. Interment was made in the Peoples‘ Cemetery at Tryoll.

Tihe newly married couple were escort-ed to seats M. th. front of the room where a lame table was laden with numerous beautiful and useful gifts of linens money. glassware. silverware aluminimiware, pottery, etc. Friend: of the bride opened t-he parcels ant‘ after reading the accompanying sentiments presented the gifts to Mr. and Mrs. MaeKenzie. Both replied with sincere expressions of gratitude. After an evening o; music and dancing a dainty lunch was served by the ladies of Crapaud and vicinity. The happy young couple were married in St. John’: Church, Crapoud on the 29th of November.

Th; death occurred at Valleyfield but on December-ii. 1934 of John J.‘ Mhcleod. just one short month after the passing of his beloved wife. They were united in life and in their death they were mt divided.

The late Mr. MacLeod was born at Vaileyfield East on November 28. 1351. the son of John and Mary Mac‘ Iteod. As a young man he learned the

carpenter trade with the late Sam MacPherson, Bellevue. He then went to work with the CPR. in

western Canada. Later. he worked at his trade in Boston and in Sydney, N.S. In the yea:- 1885 he married Elizabeth MacPhec.

The late Mr. MacLeod leaves to mourn his passing. one brother Jonathan. ‘Ilallevfield East: one sister, Margaret. Mrs. Duncan Campbell, Valleyficld East: one son. William A. at heme. and foul‘ daughters. Jenn. at home: Mary. Mrs. Maobeod. Quincy: Katie. Mrs. MacKenzie, Glen Martin; Jeie. Quincy. One son. John M. was killed 1n a. train wreck in France in 1018.

The death occurred in Glcnwood on Dec. 23rd of Mr. John James Hickey. an aged resident of that place. Mr. Hickey had resided in the United States for e uumbe of years. returning to his home a few years ago an invalid, under the care of his sister, Mrs. Joseph Boultal‘. it is regretted that a few days previous to his death, Mrs. Boultcr fell down stairs and broke her arm near the shoulder. The funeral of Mr. Hickey took place to Brae R0- fuun Catholic Church on Dec. 26th. tll¢ Requiem Mass being celebrated by the pastor, Rev. George McDon- nld.
